“Totally utterly terrible”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2014 via mobile

We took the €1 train from Carcassoonne to Quillan, a bargain with wonderful views all the way. On arrival my wife found the small market, then we looked for food. The cafe du Fleuve got very good reviews in Tripadvisor, so we found a table and sat down.

The waiter arrived and helpfully moved our table out of the sun and asked us for our drinks. They arrived quickly and then the nightmare began.

It wasn't very busy but it was impossible to get the waiter's attention to order food; and the food looked wonderful, and the prices were a bargain, but not for us it seemed. Other people came, sat down, had their order's taken, food delivered, but us, we were ignored. Eventually I managed to say to the waiter that we were ready to order, in fact we had been ready for 30 minutes. Non, non, he said, cinque minute, cinque minute, and off he went to serve someone else.

Three pensioners sat down at the table next to us, they had a dog, and the waiter was at their table immediately, drinks? food? water the dog? of course, they were served straight away and the waiter just walked straight past us. Eve the dog was served before we were.

Then I noticed everyone who was being served was French.

When we sat down there had been a woman sitting on her own, and I noticed that she kept trying to get the waiter's attention, but no success. Eventually she had enough, walked into the restaurant and had a huge argument because she had been waiting for so long. Out she stormed.

After an hour of waiting, we hadn't even been able to order, we gave up. I walked in and paid for the cappucino and coke that we had finished 55 minutes before.

Absolutely, terrible. The worst sevice ever, anywhere in the world.

Maybe they were busy, non!

Maybe it was because we weren't French? I hope not.

Avoid like the plague.

This ruined our entire day. My wife blamed me for trusting Tripadvisor, it was all my fault.

Cafe du Fleuve? More like Cafe du Hell.

“Great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 April 2014

Have eaten here a few times and the service, food and location are fantastic. In the heart of Quillan, it is a proper cafe with a great buzz and bistro food.

“Enjoyable experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 October 2013

We used Cafe du Fleuve for early evening drinks on a couple of nights, and ate there once. Menu choices are on a blackboard; you will be fed heartily and served well by the staff. You DO need a pudding.

“Typically french.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 October 2013

Arrived at lunchtime after a long morning without breakfast and not such a great meal the night before. Was looking for a big feed and wasnt let down by this eaterie.
The food is simple, not Michelin star for sure, but for the price it was of generous portion size and well presented. The usual french staples such as steak and fries were all present on the menu.
The house wine a little pricy but certainly not enough to scare you away!
The dessert was one of the best i have encountered in qquite a while.
The service was friendly and efficient and the whole experience was a positive one,A+

“At last somewhere friends and reasonable in Quillan”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 September 2013

OK so you may just be attracted by the free wifi in the first instance but you'll be seduced by the two friendly guys running the cafe and the well cooked fresh food. This place has passed through a number of hands in recent years and I am delighted that at last there are some professionals running the show. I'll miss this place 'till we return next summer and then it's the first place I'll head for.
