“Quillan, a relaxing, peaceful holiday in the heart of the blanquette region.”
Reviewed 12 October 2016 for a stay in September 2016

Just returned from a relaxing 10days in this great apartment in Quillan staying with friends for a late Summer break.
The typically French apartment is well equipped for all kinds of activities with masses of info and maps on the area and easy on-street parking for our 2 rental cars.
It is ideally situated in the centre of the town which makes popping out for morning croissants so convenient!!
This was our first visit to the Auden region of France and we found so much to see and enjoy that we will need another trip to cover the things we missed.
Our stay coincided with Quillan food festival in the middle of September which made a bonus weekend meeting up with the friendly locals and tourists alike.
We found Collioure at the coast a must to visit and well worth the effort and of course Carcassonne is outstanding.
Big thanks to Mike who kept us well informed on arrival details and helpful info for our stay. We hope to return.

“Home away from Home in a quaint village in the foothills of the Pyrenees”
Reviewed 9 March 2016 for a stay in January 2016

This apartment has two well-equipped kitchens, including washing machine. The lovely large but cozy living room has a terrific fireplace and comfortable seating. There are also many books and pamphlets with all kinds of information provided on the surrounding areas. Board Games, TV and Wifi also. Very clean and inviting. The roof terrace has a great view of surrounding roofs, hillsides, and on a clear day the magnificent, snow-covered Pyrenees can just be seen. A great place to enjoy a glass of the locally made Blanquette which apparently has been around longer than champagne, and just as tasty! We went to the Wednesday market in the town, as well as the great produce market on Saturday. Being a Market lover, we also attended the huge market in Esperaza on Sunday which has all the French delicacies, as well as nick-nacks and some useful things- a fun day. Did a couple of hikes in the nearby countryside, one almost flat, and one quite challenging - there are apparently many more hikes close by that range from easy walks on up. We visited Rennes le Chateau, which is a castle on top of a hill, with magnificent views of the surrounding vineyards and other crops. Also took a day trip to Canet Plage on the Mediterranean, which should not be missed - an easy 1hour plus drive; which took us much longer coming home as we came across many wineries with wine-tasting on the way. My favourite day trip, I think was to Carcassonne - both the old Cite, which is an absolute must, and the modern city below it.

“Great base for exploring the area”
Reviewed 20 June 2015 for a stay in July 2013

Comfortable apartment in a great town centre location in Quillan. Perfect for exploring the area, we ran out of time and have booked to stay again. Road cyclists will enjoy the easy access to beautiful mountain passes (this is Tour De France country). There are castles, lakes, wine, markets, history and spectacular scenery and at the end of the day a well equipped apartment with a sunny roof terrace to return to.

“A perfect base in rural France”
Reviewed 16 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Travelled with a large group of cyclists basing ourselves in 2 houses in Quillan, a typically French small rural town, 50 mins drive from Carcassone, 2h from Toulouse where we arrived in to. One of our houses was at Avenue Berthelot and from the point of arranging our collection of keys, we were put in contact with Dorothy, an English ex-pat who looks after the house for the owner. Dorothy was excellent, very helpful and I'm sure if we had needed her for anything beyond key collection and drop-off and a little local advice she would have done anything to help. The apartment is above a flower shop with parking available on the street opposite the entrance. There are stairs up to the first of the 3 floors from the front door to be aware of. Once inside the apartment was lovely, well appointed, spacious, clean, nice view from the balcony - it had everything needed for a base in Quillan. It had plenty of homely touches, music, games etc to make the times you spend in there very comfortable - even a log fire (though not needed in June!).
All in all, a terrific place to stay - I can see why it has got full marks from all previous guests. Highly recommended.

“Perfect French Experience”
Reviewed 17 September 2013 for a stay in July 2013

Loved our week in the flat in Quillan. Great location, so close to the award winning bakery, easy to get around and a beautiful area. Even in July it was remarkable how peaceful it was and how relaxing to spend every evening on the roof top terrace enjoying our dinner. Two kitchens is a real treat and it was so easy to get supplies in town. Can hardly wait for our next trip!

“A treasured holiday nest”
Reviewed 30 August 2013 for a stay in June 2013

This was our fourth time to return to this beautiful apartment in Quillan. We would come every year, if we could afford it. Why? The apartment's location above a flower shop in the medieval part of Quillan means that you have complete privacy while also having access to the twice-weekly market, to the shops, bakery, bars, swimming pool, hiking routes etc. It was a refreshingly cool space of respite after long morning hikes along the ancient and well signposted Cathar routes - but do remember to close the shutters by late morning. We enjoyed as many meals as we could on the balcony simply because it offers stunning views of Pyrenees. We visited several local towns including Limoux (where there is a superb wine shop in the square that will ship wines to any location), but mostly we were happy to hike daily, paint, read and enjoy the comfort of the apartment.
