Quillan is an excellent centre for exploring 'Cathar Country', and this house is a good place to stay, situated in a very quiet, mainly residential area but only a few minutes walk from the central hub of the old town. The owner thoughtfully provided detailed local maps along with the usual information on tourist attractions.
The house has a modern kitchen which is very well equipped, although a few more mugs and teacups would perhaps be useful for a family staying here. The living area is quite spacious with plenty of very comfortable seating, and is well lit - not always a given in French holiday homes.
There are 3 satellite tv systems, the French one is excellent, but the channel choice on the English one was somewhat disappointing. However, the wifi system was outstandingly good and worked well throughout the house, with very fast downloading.
The bathroom was fine, with a powerful shower, and there are also two separate WCs. All three bedrooms have large fans but no a/c which could be a drawback in the peak summer season. The master bedroom has its own balcony, and there is outdoor seating in the front garden.
Everything in the house worked exactly as it should, and there were clear instructions for all the major systems. The owner was extremely helpful, responding quickly to all enquiries before we arrived. Although there was no 'welcome pack' for our arrival, the kitchen was well provisioned.
Potential guests should be aware that the house is on 4 levels inside, so older people and families with very young children would need to be extra vigilant on the stairs, especially down into the kitchen.
