We just returned from a wonderful trip to Connemara Ireland. We did not want to do tours. We stayed at the Connemara Sands Hotel and Spa for one week -- taking day trips out to all the beautiful sights. We highly recommend this hotel. It's right on the beach, has a great spa and is in close proximity to all of Connemara's beautiful attractions. The food provided at the Connemara Sands is exceptional. Shout out to Umberto, Martin and the spa. And, Thank you!
This is a place that you don't want to leave. The atmosphere is very special and you feel like coming home. Enjoy the beauty of the house, the rooms and the scenery and you will never forget the great hospitality, the delicious breakfast and dinner with fresh ingredients that deserves a special thanks to the chef and his team. We planned only the trip due to the good ratings of the Connemara Golf Course and we have never expected Connemara as such a untouched beautiful area and wouldn't have expected such a lovely accommodation as the Connemara Sands Hotel neither.
Unfortunately it was only a weekend trip, but when ever we need a silence place to recover to charge the batteries in an area with such a pure nature, Connemara Sands Hotel is the first address to go, because it is a very special and hidden place in the world.
Wonderful dinner in the new restaurant with family last week. New kitchen in the middle of the restaurant allows you see the chefs at work. Excellent menu with Connemara lamb a specialty. Don't miss it!
Firstly lets start on the positive, the restaurant was fantastic for dinner and the breakfast was outstanding. Lovely healthy shots and delicious cereals.
The room was not 4 star, the room smelt musty when we first entered. We had a front view but the room had a metal spiral staircase to a viewing area and my husband hit his head twice. The bathroom light above the mirror didn't work so my husband had difficulty having a shave and I couldn't see to put make up on. The hairdryer is rubbish and I don't like toileteries on the wall in a big container. It just looks naff.
We walked to the private beach however its dangerous to get to as you have to climb over rocks. The area around the hotel is stunning and very peaceful.
Its a short drive to the Alcock and Brown memorial and the Maraconi station so worth a visit.
I would say this is a 3 star hotel but the restaurant is worth a visit.
When we arrived in the restaurant we sat for a long time before anyone took an order for drink or food. It was difficult to see who was in charge. I would have thought staff could have some sort of uniform to help diners like us. We did feel a bit invisible and uncomfortable!
Great venue to spend a few hours, a few options for walking depending on ability and energy levels. Cafe was ok but visitor centre excellent. Staff were knowledgeable and informative. Easy parking and all for free, a real gem.
