“They try very hard!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 June 2013

We have just returned froma two night stay andwould certainly go back - especially if the weather was good!
It has a wonderful location overlooking Downings Bay but unfortunately the exterior has no architectural merit and it looks more like an up-market prison. The lack of any trees adds to this feeling but perhaps trees will not flourish in this rather exposed northerly part of Ireland? The interior is much nicer. We had a spacious and quiet bedroom, there is a large elegant lounge and a quite grand impressive dining room which looks out over the bay and which gets the best of any sunsets.
One of the great strengths of this hotel are the immaculate, excellent and numerous staff whioc go about their duties efficiently and with a smile.
The dinner menu seems to change every day with just about the right numbert of options on each course. Four courses are priced at 45 euro but we found that two courses at 30 euro were more than adequate as the main course is huge. Incidentally melba toast seems to be a thing of the past in most restaurants but it is served here and was much appreciated. The cooking is just a little bit institutional and perhaps the staff are just a little too efficient and serve it rather quickly? The wine list is well chosen and fairly priced. Breakfast is ok without being in any way exceptional.
I wish the Rosapenna Hotel every success. The obviously try very hard in these very difficult times for Iriah hotels.

Room Tip: make sure you get a sea view.

4 course lunch, silver service, in a truly beautiful setting overlooking Downings beach €23.50 each. Just pure class. Choice of half a dozen or so starters and main courses. A relaxing place to enjoy a traditional Sunday lunch and just soak up the charm. Everything here not only meets but exceeds expectations. Great attentive staff. The Crab and Prawn cocktail starter is my favourite, and the roast meat just melts on your tongue. I don't normally eat dessert but I challenge you to leave without trying one of the mouth watering temptations. my favourite is plum crumble with Creame Anglaise. Enough said!

we were invited by some friends for dinner in May . It was simply one of the best meals we have ever enjoyed. While the resort is a bit out of the way it is well wort a visit and the views from the dinning room are wonderful

This is a superb hotel in North Donegal . We have been visiting this hotel and golf resort for many years and the level of service and attention to detail has always been excellent. Even though we visit regularly we always consider this venue as a special treat.
The hotel is spacious but comfortable and the rooms have been tastefully refurbished over recent years. The Bar is cosy and the Lounge area is large and beautifully furnished - lovely paintings and maps of local interest.
Dinner is super with seafood, local lamb and veg -and friendly service.
There are two testing golf courses with terrific scenery no matter what the weather-often all seasons in a day!
Largely an adults/ golfers venue but there is a good leisure centre and lots to do for non-golfers in the area-Atlantic Drive is a must .
A Family run hotel which has improved over the years..well worth a visit.

Room Tip: Superior rooms and Suites available...sea view is a must. Ground floor rooms are very quiet if you...

What a fabulous place for 2-day mini break. Didn't leave the premises the whole time. Just relaxed +++. Total peace and comfort and all needs met. Lovely decor, food and service. Great spots to sit and read. Pool, massage etc was just what the Dr ordered!! Friendly courteous staff and fabulous room, bed and pillows etc.

Three generations of our family enjoyed Sunday lunch in the Rosapenna Hotel. The Hotel is in a beautiful location and overlooks Downings Bay located within Sheephaven Bay in Northwest Donegal. The hotel main lobby is very large but intimate. The dining room is spacious, comfortable and caters for all ages. The food was excellent and the staff efficient, courteous and friendly. A lovely experience. We will be back.

We enjoyed another lovely stay at the Rosapenna. Stayed in the bay view suites which are very luxurious and the balcony of the suite overlooks the beach with its constantly changing seascape. The food is excellent, lots of very fresh sea food and the service is unobtrusive but attentive. A minor suggestion-it would be nice to have some shortbread or biscuits in your room to have when you make yourself coffee.

Room Tip: Bay view suites are the best but are 5 star prices-worth the price though for a special occasion
