I'd give it a 5 but the leisure centre is not at the hotel so you have to either walk or drive to it. I did not. Rooms are clean and spacious with a morning chorus from the seagulls and blackbirds. We had the room with dinner and breakfast for€55. And I have to say the dinner was spectacular. Our appetiser was steamed mussels in a garlic and wine sauce. I had the plaice, which included a mash with crabmeat. For dessert a scoop of chocolate, pistachio and vanilla ice cream. Staff is friendly and accomodating.

Cordial, very we'll kept bayside hotel. Full service pub. Centrally located for site seeing, touring. Nice beach for walks and sun bathing. Weather was cooperative. We're lucky. Worth the visit. Good value.

Weary and hungry from pedalling the Wild Atlantic Way, we were astounded by the menu. As I read through the sheet of starters and mains, I realised EVERYTHING was vegetarian. Then I saw a second menu, one with meat, fish and chicken.
The waitress was attentive and quick.
The choice of veggie dishes was inspiring and tasty.
We spent 10 days cycling the coast of Donegal and this was the best vegetarian menu we found.

The room was comfortable, spacious and quiet, though we visited in April in the week before Easter.
As for our bikes, there was no lock up provided and they were left under the stairs overnight.
There was a good selection for breakfast, self service toast, cereal and fruit, though yogurt was all flavoured and a cooked to order selection, perfect to set us up for another ride.

Booked for a group of 19 - Joan on reception is really helpful and friendly, as were all bar staff and restaurant staff even when having to deal with a large group of demanding customers.

Rooms clean, spacious and comfortable - I had a twin room 104 which had a double and a single bed - Joan even arranged a discount for one room having single occupancy.

Ate in the restaurant - excellent food and great value - again staff were so helpful and friendly - breakfast next day was good value - limited options but more than enough for the majority of travellers.

Would like to have seen more of beautiful location and maybe even have used the off site leisure suite- but will definitely be back soon although not for Nathan Carter on 17 July (not my bag I'm afraid). All 19 guests expressed their satisfaction as they departed and I'm sure they will go back the Downings Bay Hotel.

We stayed at the hotel mid-week, recently. It was excellent. Staff were so friendly and chatty. Everywhere was really clean. The room was large (for 3 ) and the beds were extremely comfortable. Buffet style breakfast-cereal, juices, croissants. You make your own toast. There is also a menu to chose what cooked breakfast you want. Excellent evening meals in the bar too. Vegetarian menu--limited to 3 choices, on request. 5 minutes walk up the hill is the brilliant Harbour Bar--well worth a visit!!

Room Tip: I would suggest the hotel would be quite noisy on a 'club' night, so might be worth speaking...

Nice surprise on overnight stay at 'the bay' with my wife. Hassle free checkin, freindly staff. Room was big, bright and very clean. Although it is shown as three star, it may just be punching above its weight.
