A privately owned partially restored chateau with substantial buildings and courtyard. Climb to the top of the tower for great views over the village and farm land. Large vaulted chapel, music room and dining hall. Even had a jousting area.

A Cathare Château located at the entrance to the village of Puivert. Privately owned. The owner is working exceptionally hard to restore the buildings and grounds. Access and parking are free. During the summer there are pony rides and demonstartions of 'jousting' and the art of a blacksmith. Light drinks and snacks available in season. Not really suitable access to the buildings for unfit elderly or people with reduced mobility, although the grounds are easily accessed.
€5 access fee (vary cheap)

This chateau dominates the skyline from quite a distance and is well worth the visit. It's up a steep hill so the views are great too.

Looks great from a distance and even better when you walk around. The views from the tower are magnificent and the tapestries and exhibits are worth seeing.

The castle of Puivert is one of the very few Cathar places that's accessible for all the people who don't feel like climbing, or who aren't steady on their feet.

Puivert has some rooms, staircases and features ancient musical instruments. The final scenes of the movie "The Ninth Gate" featuring Johnny Depp took place here as well.

It's well preserved, and due to its accessibility one of the few Cathar castles suitable for the whole family. Don't forget to visit the Quercorb museum nearby, there you can find even more musical instruments and explanations.
