The Spessotto is THE place the stay! We lived in this small village for almost four years (in the military) many years ago. Have had the pleasure of visiting four times over the last four years. The hotel is located in the center of the walled village, across a small street from the canal that runs through the city, and right around the corner from the (should be as famous as the one in Pisa) leaning tower of Portogruaro. Rooms in the hotel are perfect, food is great, and the staff is like family. Thanks again for a wonderful time & more great memories.

We arrived as part of a cycle tour, the room was spacious and on the top floor towards the front of the hotel. The double sized spa was just what we needed after riding all day. The room was modern and recently renovated, air conditioning worked well, the cable tv channels had italian, german and english language stations. The bar and restaurant downstairs provided friendly service and even a free welcome drink as well. The meal was generous and enjoyed by my wife and I. The breakfast was typical italian buffet with a selection of fruits yoghurt pastries ham and cheese. Overall a very pleasant stay

Room Tip: second floor at the front had a lovely spa bath, no view but very quiet and spacious

This hotel is family owned and family run. As a result there is none of the impersonal service that you tend to get from the major hotel chains. Instead everything is done efficiently with a minimum of a polite smile.

Although the rooms are compact they are not lacking, with the exception that there are no facilities in the room for coffee/tea etc.

My stay was for 4 days and breakfast and evening meals were very good, although occasionally all the breakfast buffet items were not all present at the same time.

That aside, this hotel comes with my full recommendation. I would certainly not hesitate to stay there again.

Room Tip: Some single rooms are very small. If this is a problem then let the hotel know at the time of bookin...

Stay in this hotel while on tour through N. Italy. A lovely family run establishment. Rooms are well appointed despite being compact in size.
Our room had recently been refurbished and the bathroom was superbly finished. A highly recommended hotel.

Room Tip: Some of the single rooms are very small. Make sure when booking to ask to avoid them.

We recently stayed at this hotel for a few days with a group from the UK. The staff could not have been friendlier. So helpful and welcoming. The bedroom was a little on the small side, but really quiet and the bathroom was an excellent standard and I would guess had been re-furbished recently. Hotel is situated really conveniently in a quiet area but close to shops and bars and some pretty areas. Highlight though, was the food! Beautiful flavours, really good - (memorable plate of parma ham, and a seafood risotto). Nothing was too much trouble in the restaurant to give an alternative if you couldn't eat something in particular. Great waiter in the restaurant and he, the chef and the general manager came and greeted us at the end of our stay. They were given well deserved applause.

Very comfortable, clean single room in a good price. Quiet and safe area. A restaurant and a bar, a parking lot. In a good position to walk to Portogruaro which is a perfect place to make a breake in a journey.

In spite of the high ratings, this hotel lives up to its four star reputation in most respects. It was nicely decorated, clean, though a bit cramped in the rooms.

But the service left a lot to be desired in several respects:
- Staff were generally not particularly friendly. They tended to be abrupt when we asked questions, showed their impatience and frustration. And why do they want to hold on to our passports over night? Every other hotel simply takes a photocopy.
- We got no help or suggestions when we wanted a bite to eat during the siesta
- When we tried to enter the dining room before it was supposed to open, we were simply told it was closed and had to inquire when it was supposed to open (we ended up eating elsewhere)
- But the worst was the morning we left, when we were rudely shown into a separate dining area for "bicyclists," with a lousy selection, communal dining, and no discernible effort to bus the tables or replenish the buffet.
