“We had a great time at Wilsham Farm”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

We are just back from a weekend stay at Wilsham, and look forward to going back again :) Wilsham is very relaxed and welcoming, our 4 poster bedroom room was spacious and comfortable with a large ensuite bathhroom. It was like staying with friends at thier large country farm house, We ( and our dog ) were made very welcome and given free range of the house, farm and swimming pool, ( it's OK we didn't take our dog swimming ). Breakfast is great, a very nice selection and free range eggs from the farm with the yellowest yolks you can imagine :) You will have fabulous views down the valley to enjoy and wild life to watch, ( we saw a heron on the pond ). Don't go expecting bijou city slick, take your walking boots and enjoy a great break in the country side.

Spent three nights here with the wife. We were warmly welcomed by the friendly Richard, who could not do enough to make sure we had everything we needed during our stay.

You will find:

A fantastic, tasty cooked breakfast with eggs fresh from the farm.
Flapjacks to die for in a magic jar in the room (it's full again when you come home).
A lovely refreshing indoor pool with views across the hills.
Breathtaking surroundings, including the breakfast room with its incredible vista with wildlife everywhere.
Horses and dogs to make a fuss of.

Slight drawback -- there are no cats! My wife was delighted but I am a cat lover.

Local pub/restaurant the Blue Ball Inn serves generous portions of absolutely superb food at very good prices... we have never done this before but we went there all three nights, it was that good. (I will do a separate review for it).

Can't really think of anything negative about Wilsham (apart from the lack of cats ;) , even no locks on bedroom doors as mentioned by others did not bother us, if anything it underlined what a lovely relaxed place we were in, and we had no qualms about security. This is another world.

So all in all, we heartily recommended Wilsham Farm, you will not be disappointed if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway in stunning surroundings..

Have just stayed here for 3 nights over the Spring Bank holiday weekend, staying in the Watersmeet suite. Beautifully spacious room, with little sitting room off and bathroom. Lovely comfortable bed with great views out towards the valley. All very clean with a nice range of toiletries and great tea and coffee making facilities. We particularly enjoyed the very tasty flapjacks, which we found at the end of each day after a hard day's walking.

Delicious breakfast, the fruit compote is particularly yummy and the breakfast was beautifully cooked. The owner, Richard, was most hospitable and couldn't do enough for you. He really wants you to have an enjoyable time at his farm. On the first morning a young girl ran breakfast - most delightful - she had a lovely way about her.

Went for a little walk one evening at around 9 pm and saw 5 deer in a nearby field which was a lovely site. The farm is situated at a junction of footpaths. Within about 30-40 minutes you can get to Watersmeet and then carrying on, on a variety of paths you can get to Lynmouth. Superb walking country. The farm really is in a special location. On driving down the single track road, keep going right until the very end, which is where the farm is situated. It can be tricky in the pitch black, late at night to find the exact building.

I am sure we will want to return to this area - there is so much walking to do around here, and without hesitation, we will be back.

We decided on this location as they take dogs and it's in an amazing part of Exmoor and we weren't disappointed. The location is easy to find and as you approach down the single track road you are welcomed with a beautiful location and some fantastic accommodation. Our room was crazy. Really warm and cosy, with a four poster bed, dressing room and shower / bath. All areas where clean and within the main building you also have the use of a very welcoming drawing room and conservatory. (Great views) The surrounding area in ideal for dogs and to top it all of the swimming pool is a bundle of fun. Highly recommend this location and we will be returning some time in the near future...

We stayed for two nights and loved it. Our four-poster room was beautiful (with a very comfortable bed and real rustic charm), the breakfast delicious, and the proprietors (Richard and Jane) are a great couple...we were made so welcome. The location is off the beaten track, with fabulous views, and is a short drive to Lynmouth & Lynton. We couldn't fault our stay. PS Jane makes the best flapjacks!

To be honest: the only critic I can make is concerning the cold that I was suffering from during breakfast. But I am sure that in months with higher outdoor temperature the view and - especially and above all - Richard's service would make me remark no critics at all. Richard was the perfect host. The room is huge as is the bathroom ensuite so overall I can fully recommend the location to everyone who appreciates living far from the tourist centre and surrounded by the beautiful landscape: a hidden surprise! (...don't travel there at night without car navigation ;-)
