We have just returned from 2 great weeks in this lovely chalet and would heartily recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday and a warm welcome It is beautifully situated overlooking the hills of Hoy and comfortable enough to make it hard to tear yourself away from the views especially of you are like us keen on watching the abundant wildlife. We were captivated by the short eared owl who hunted around the cottage and the hares which were daily visitors. It was our first visit to Orkney but wont be our last!

This is our second holiday in the chalet and I would stay here every year. A very warm welcome from Kathy is a fabulous start. The chalet is very homely, warm and cosy and is very well equipped. There is a childrens playpark on site which kept my youngest very happy. The view from the chalet is amazing. It is my favourite ever. A picture postcard. Scapa Flow, the beautiful Hoy Hills and seeing the Hamnavoe boat coming and going several times a day not forgetting the amazing sunsets. There is so much to see and do in Orkney and there is never enough time to do it. You have to stay here!

It was wonderful to have you back at Buxa and happy to hear that you enjoyed your holiday. We love that little ones enjoy the playpark and your little boy made fast friends with the kids in the croft house. I have vivid memories of the young ones running alongside your departing car waving goodbye to your son! We are busy planning a mini putt putt course to be in place in the next few weeks to keep the older kids and adults entertained. We hope you come visit us again!

This is the best cottage we have ever had in the islands, 7th visit. Very warm, spacious and very well equipped. Wonderful view of Hoy from large picture windows. Saw Orcas first day and Short Eared Owl next day. (not guaranteed though). Large heated towel rail and a real bath as well as the shower was sheer luxury . Most importantly a big lobby for boots, rucksacks, and wet clothes, an essential rarely provided. A welcome pack on the table and of course a great welcome from the very friendly owners. Highly recommended.

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay especially at Buxa Farm Chalets after so many visits to Orkney. You were very lucky to see Orcas swim by from your chalet- it's not a common occurance and one that we hope happens more often!! The Short Eared Owl hunting on the property is a more frequent visitor. We hope you come back and bring the Orcas with you!

Our stay at Buxa Croft House was superb and we were delighted with so much; the warmth of our welcome, the quality of the facilities, the comfort provided, and the situation. The level of care and interest demonstrated by the owners in providing a quality experience for guests was readily evident and hugely successful. As the main Cook in the party, I have to say I have never come across such a well equipped kitchen - all the pots and pans, utensils, crockery and cutlery, anyone could wish for. It made the catering so much easier and it was great to have a dishwasher! We have been renting holiday properties for over 4 decades, in many countries, and this was the best so far. Congratulations to Kathy and Keith! We liked the fact that nothing was stinted in making our stay comfortable. The situation is lovely, with views from the windows looking out over Scapa Flow to the mountains of Hoy and to Graemsay. We were entertained each day by the hares playing on the grassy area by the patio and numerous visiting birds. Our neighbours saw orcas, and though we missed out, we enjoyed the magnificent seascape nonetheless. The house is well equipped with TVs, books and games should the weather be too bad to venture out. Fortunately we were lucky and enjoyed the many attractions of Mainland and nearby Hoy. Buxa is ideally located to access all the major archaeological sites and the ferries to the other islands. We found the people we met very warm, friendly and happy to chat or help. Overall a memorable and wonderful visit. Ann C

This was our first visit to Orkney - somewhere I'd long wanted to go from curiosity about prehistory and Nordic Scottish island culture. This June's visit far exceeded our expectations, welcomed in the chalet and everywhere in the islands by helpful informative people, we enjoyed wild flowers, birds, seals, hares, cliffs, walks, scenery, stone age houses, stone circles and burials, iron age brochs ( circular fortified coastal enclosures) Viking ruins, and much more recent culture rural and urban, from the 1000 year St Magnus Cathedral to 20th century history and fields of sheep and cattle, bulls happily in with their families(behind robust fences). You'd need a car or possibly bikes to get around and get victuals but cabs will take and collect on meter for airport. A lot of good tourist is info available free on the islands. The grounds are spacious in this quiet location (apart from birds)

This was our first time in the Orkney Islands, and what a wonderful time we had! We spent a week there in the middle of May 2013. The weather was mixed, but every day, in warm clothing, on foot and with a hired car, we went out and discovered these beautiful and unusual islands and their unique historical sites. And every day it was so nice to come home to our chalet, which we called 'home from home'. Buxa Farm Chalets are a perfect base to explore the islands, modern, comfortable, warm, extremely well equipped and with wonderful views over the water and the mountains of Hoy Island in the distance. Lovely to watch the ever changing weather and moods - sometimes all in many shades of grey, on other days everything sparkling in the sunshine in deepest blues. It would be lovely to return some time and discover even more!

There is an old saying here in Orkney "if you don't like the weather, wait a minute it will change." It sounds like you took full advantage of everything the weather had to offer and enjoyed it for what it was! Delighted also that you enjoyed the comforts of the chalet. Orkney has so much to offer and every year even more things come up so we would be most happy to have you return some time and discover more. Thank you for your review of your holiday in Orkney and your stay at Buxa Farm Chalets.

I would highly recommend Buxa Farm Chalets, well equipped, comfortable and warm, beautiful views across to the island of Hoy, lots of wildlife, sensational sunsets, well situated to explore the island. We stayed a week at the end of May and had lovely weather, needed longer to fully explore the islands. Owner provided extra touches , free wifi and regular bulletins with local events etc.
