Visited here on 12th June a friends leaving meal, plenty of room outside in the sun, when I went to the bar I had to duck under the beams a close ouch. But all in all the place is well presented, we had food and drink which was on the table quickly and very tasty, I did not feel the prices were anything other than I would expect to pay at a place like this and were comparable with other places I visit, so all in all a good pleasant place to vist.

This is a good pub and the large outdoor area is great on a sunny day but I just think it is overpriced for what you get. The food and service is good but for the same price at somewhere like the hand and trumpet you would get a lot better. On the other hand the Elephant in Shavington is more affordable also with good atmosphere. Also the Hough pub since it changed hands has good affordable food.

We visited The White Lion following a recommendation. It was a fairly quiet, wet afternoon and it felt a little chilly indoors despite it being early June! The decor is lovely, just the sort of place we love to visit. The beer was good and the food was reasonable. The crispy falafel was a little dry and the haricot beans in the quesadilla would have benefitted from another 5 minutes' cooking. It was very tasty despite that. The staff was very pleasant and the service was good. Will more than likely pay a return visit.

Recently stayed at the White Lion Hotel on a business trip, we were very pleasantly surprised on entering the pub/restaurant. Looked very lovely. In fact, we enjoyed had a superb meal and drinks during the evening of our stay. Couldn't fault it. Our room was - number 1, we found fine, seemed to have everything you expect for £60 and it looked clean and freshly decorated. Sadly, neither of us slept, due to a very noisy / creeks from upstairs, then other residents making noise into the early hours ( and this was a Wednesday evening) and to top it off, they may as well have not had curtains - they are so thin and the sun woke us again very early - 415am! We d really suggest from reading this review the owners kindly add a roller blind/ black out curtain. It would make all the difference. Breakfast was good, again no complaints. If booking again, I'd request a room upstairs and at the back!

Room Tip: Request an upstairs room - this would cut down the creeping floorboards above !

We drive frequently from Scotland to the south of England, on the M6, and are always looking for a comfortable stop off to break the journey. This time we chose the White Lion on a busy Friday night. It's just a few minutes from the M6, and easy to find, with plenty of well lit parking.
Unfortunately we arrived a little too late for an evening meal, and from what we saw in the dining room, it looked really good. The decor is warm and stylish, but does not detract from the historic building, and the atmosphere in the bar area was excellent, with a good range of beers , but sadly no bar snacks other than crisps.

At £60 for a double room inc breakfast it's very good value. The rooms are perfectly clean, although small and somewhat dated.(please get rid of the lampshades with the furry edgings) The tiny bathroom was very adequate, though I did have to hold the shower head in my hand, as it wasnt properly supported by its holder.
The bed was not the most comfortable, but again perfectly adequate for our requirements. It reminded me of the old style drive in Mom and Pop motels in USA. More luxurious rooms would cost more....so again I would repeat ..... good value ......

So......does the White Lion merit a repeat stopover ????? Well, that depended on the breakfast.!!!! It was excellent.....a self serve table with juices , fresh fruit, cereals, toast etc and a cooked dish to order. We had full English breakfasts with lovely thick bacon, quality sausages etc , well presented. Yes .....to the White Lion, and we will arrive earlier next time and enjoy a meal in the attractive dining room.

Room Tip: We were allocated Room 4, conveniently on the ground floor, but we could hear a lot of noise from above ....squeaky floor boards, running water etc.....but we needed to away early so it didnt matter.......its still great value for money
