“Our perfect wedding”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 November 2010

We chose Morley Hayes for our wedding reception venue because of the 'twigs'
We got married on 20th November, we didn't want a Christmas wedding just a beautiful autumnal one and this is what we got. Upon enquiry we were told the twigs would be in place for our wedding (they don't usually go up until beginning of Dec) so we booked, and boy are we glad we did!!
We became regulars at the restaurant and became good friends with our wedding planner Sarah, on the day we were treated like royalty, the staff were incredible and relaxed any nerves we may have had. Whilst we were having our photos outside, our MC brought out some canapes for us, how thoughtful!!
The food (as always) was out of this world, the best bangers ever and all of our guests said they have never tasted a buffet that good. We had the penthouse which was fab, shame you don't get it for longer so you can have a lie in, breakfast in the restaurant was yummy and I have to say upon leaving we were all very relaxed. Thank you for making our wedding day so perfect, we'll see you again very soon for our favourite onion jam!!!

Yes the twigs have been part of our Christmas decorations since we opened. They do provide a lovely backdrop for a wedding. We are very pleased you had a lovely day. Our very best wishes to you both. Thanks for writing the review.

Our guests enjoyed attentive and thoughtful service from the minute we arrived, exclusive use of a seperate suite and bar (65 guests) before being shown to our dining suite, The Sacheveral suite was dressed lavishly, the staff were friendly and professional, the meal was of the highest quality and served efficiently. The suite was ideal for a further 60 guests in the evening. After a terrific day a large proportion of our party retired to their hotel rooms. massive beds, clean and comfortable facilities, a peaceful nights sleep. Waking to excellent views over the golf course and parkland. A number of us had arrived three days earlier and enjoyed dining in the five star restaurant. The breakfast menu was long and varied with service from attentive staff.

We stayed at the hotel for two nights on a dinner bed and breakfast basis. Our room was large and comfortable with an excellent bed. Decor was modern and a bit bland but this is not a problem, unless you prefer character in your hotel room. Bathroom was large and well equipped. Wifi was on a pay basis which I found very surprising in a 4star hotel. It just appears to be greedy.
Breakfast was good with excellent friendly service in a small dining room in the main hotel.
The hotel is let down by the restaurant which is in an adjacent building - I think that you would get a totally different experience if staying on a bed and breakfast basis.
The menu, which was limited to four choices per course, didn't change over our two nights.
Service was overall very poor and not just at our table. Only one member of staff was able to work the till to put our drinks onto our room bill and so we had to wait for them to be available to help. There was then a further wait for errors on our bill- we were charged extra erroneously for some puddings - to be corrected. We were given the wrong menus to chose from and again our waitress had to go and find someone to ask which menu we should be given.
On our second night it took us 20 minutes to manage to get a bottle of wine. The waiter delivered my husbands beer but then literally ran away whilst I tried to order a bottle of wine. It was actually very funny as I sat with my mouth open. We then tried to order a bottle at the bar but this didn't seem to be a priority. Eventually I got my bottle when our food order was taken.
The oblong plates were placed on our table lengthwise rather than moving our cutlery. This was fine except my husbands bowl of soup nearly went crashing into his lap. Oh yes and I poured my own wine all night-I know it is old fashioned and not to everyones taste but I do enjoy having my wine poured when having a nice meal.
At adjacent tables we also witnessed sauces arriving half way through meals and incorrect starters being delivered.
Overall the food wasn't bad but they really need to sharpen up. When I mentioned it on checking out, I was asked if the waiting staff were young and yes they were but all they need is some training! Age should be irrelevant!
Just to reiterate there were no problems at all at breakfast with friendly and very helpful staff who went out of there way to help.

Thank you for your comments following your stay here at Morley Hayes. I am so sorry that the service was not up to standard in the restaurant and that the menus were small with limited choice.
Both these issues have now been addressed and rectified.
I do hope that you will be able to visit Morley Hayes again in the near future and experience a true 4 star hotel and restaurant.

Our Association has stayed at Morley Hayes three times now. We would not consider looking anywhere else. The hotel service, accomodation, and food are excellent. Prices are very fair for all that is provided.

Lovely location, beautiful bedrooms and public rooms. Food for a largish group can often be very ordinary - not at the Morley Hayes. It was tasty and piping hot - again unusual for a large group. Staff were so helpful they could not do enough to help you. including taking guests into Derby or a local gym and picking them up again. Roll on my next visit.

Morley Hayes is primarily a golf complex with a 9 and an18 hole course plus a driving range. But don’t let that put you off if you are not a golfer.
It is situated in countryside north of Derby. There are essentially 3 main building set in well tended grounds. The main building offers large conference and meeting rooms plus 2 restaurants open to the public as well as residents.
The second building is hotel reception and accommodation with a breakfast room.
The third building is the pro shop and golf bar.
As part of a holiday in Derbyshire we stayed for three nights in September, B&B plus evening meal and were impressed.
The bedrooms were very spacious with huge bed, the fixtures and fittings were of the highest quality with an excellent en-suite. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the golf course. It was quite busy while we were there but it did not detract from the staff being very helpful and giving us their time. We were sorry to leave and would recommend it to anybody.
The only slight disadvantage, if it was raining, was having to walk from the hotel across the car park to the restaurant for the evening meal.
