“Real quality birthday lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 March 2014

What a treat, welcoming, relaxed, no rush, comfortable seating whilst we chose our pre lunch drinks. No hurry to choose from the varied menu, guided to our seats and made comfortable. Our starters arrived, soup, lovely warm and tasty. The main courses were superb, our party were all very pleased and our sweet course didn't disappoint. The meal, the staff were all real quality, we wanted a meal that was special for our birthday lunch and we were not let down in the slightest. We will definitely be returning, can't wait. Very good value for money.

“Sunday Lunch Set Menu”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 February 2014 via mobile

We visited The Dovecote on Sunday for my mother in laws birthday.
The food was fantastic! The roast beef melted in your mouth and the butternut squash soup was to die for!
Top marks, will return again! Great value for money too.
Also the staff are fantastic, very helpful and polite!
Would recommend

Dear Samantha-Jayne
We are delighted you had such an enjoyable time when you joining us for Sunday lunch here in The Dovecote Restaurant. The beef we use is either from our own farms or from a local farm right here in Derbyshire. I have passed on your comments to our chefs and the front of house team

“Very Very poor”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 February 2014

I really don't know how this haw this restaurant has survived and why people actually pay.

My wife and I went on a family meal and didn't want to make a fuss because of the bad food and service but I know I should have done. Started with scallops, which I have to say I enjoyed but there it stopped!! 40 minutes later the main mean came, venison which I had ordered pink. I have not got a big appetite but the portions of venison were minute this was accompanied by a pile of rice surrounding a very overcooked venison, which was totally inedible and to rub salt in the wound it cost £18.50.

Then waited another 30 minutes for the cheese; £8.50 for four very small potions of cheese with celery that had seen better days.

I have had better standard of food at motorway service stations and the whole experience was not a pleasant one.

Sounds like you weren't a "Happy Traveller" when you visited us here at The Dovecote Restaurant!

I am very sorry to hear your comments - I do wish you had spoken to us on the evening as we would have tried to correct the problems.
The venison you state was "accompanied by a pile of rice". It is not. We do not serve rice with any dish.
Your comments about how this restaurant has survived I found offensive. This restaurant has survived by our staff and my families hard work and dedication over the last 23 years to create a very successful restaurant which is enjoyed by many, many people. We will react on the constructive criticism you have given.

“Fantastic champagne breakfast”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 February 2014

The Dovecote Restaurant at Morley Hayes never seems to disappoint! If you're looking for a reliable option for a special occasion then this is the place to go.

The champagne breakfast we had was just lovely - we arrived slightly early but this was not a problem and we were seated straight away, the atmosphere was relaxed and the service prompt but not intrusive, the food was excellent in terms of choice and quality, and the décor and surroundings were highly appropriate and well maintained.

We will return again soon without doubt - just waiting for the next special occasion to come along!
