Just home after staying on a travek Zoo deal.

We have previously dined here, so when a deal came up we pounced!
Everything as we wanted, warm and cosy, parking not a problem, delicious food and friendly staff.

The winter sunshine was an added bonus to enjoy superb scenery.
Cant wait to come again.

Room Tip: We had a ground floor. quite spacious and clean.

Just got home from our fourth visit in a little over a year.

It seems to get better after each visit. Sleeping accommodation has been given a tasteful face lift.

Staff continue to be the friendliest and attentive (without being intrusive), food excellent and very good value. Our little dog thinks it's fantastic.

Hoping to visit in January 2014 weather permiting.

Baker family.

I booked a 7 course taster meal through Groupon. From booking - we were able to book prime time Saturday night - to the whole experience on the night, there was never any feeling of being a 'second class citizen' or an inconvenience.

The food is Northumbrian based using locally sourced produce and own grown items. It is what it says it is a taste of various courses. We went home full without being stuffed. One of the great things about trying a tatster meal is that you get to taste things that you would not normally try on the menu. There wasn't anythng that I did not like and the lamb in the meat course was the tastiest I have ever had. I am not a great dessert lover but the dessrt was lovely followed up with a great choice of local cheeses.

I chose the wine selection which is matched to the food courses. Each wine was lovely and interesting in its own right and went fantastically well with the food. I would recommend that anyone having this menu goes with the wine selection.

The service from all the staff was polite and friendly. They took time to explain what each course was, what the wine that accompanied it was, and that everything was to our expectation.

All in all a fantastic experience and one that I am really glad to have had the opportunity to have. Wark is a lovely place not too far off the main road, but has its own charm. Definetley well worth a visit.

Had a night at Battlesteads on their 'sampler' menu offer - 7 course dinner and have to say the hotel and all the staff were excellent. Very clean and tidy, good atmosphere, great bedroom and the food was superb! Would certainly stop there again. If you are into your walking they have some great route maps of some local walks which we tried - I would recommend them.

We did have a problem with a noisy cellar fan which kept us (and several other guests) awake part of the night but it started too late to report it and when we did in the morning the staff handled it very well. So I wont hold that against them for a technical fault.

Booked the "Chipchase room", the best room, and were not disappointed. Well furnished and appointed with views over the woods. Food superb - seasonal, locally sourced, beautifully cooked and presented. Hearty portions. Staff excellent, friendly and professional. Particularly liked the way they took our drinks through from our seats in the bar to the Restaurant. Log-burning stove in bar gave off serious heat. Exceptionally green credentials - check the website.

We stayed for two nights on a travelzoo deal which included a 7 course meal. This pub seems like a one off and not part of a large chain. It has genuinely home cooked food that doesn't come straight from the freezer unlike some pubs. They use locally sourced products and even grow some of their own. The service in the restaurant was friendly and efficient and the 7 course meal was filling without being over facing. I had the sea bass on a bed of noodles for the main course which was perfectly cooked and flavoured. I liked the fact that the course consisted mainly of sea bass and wasn't padded out with other things. Pudding was a trio of mini deserts. The only part that let it down was the "pavlova" which consisted of a really dry meringue nest (seemed like the ones you get from a supermarket) with a bit of cream and fruit on top. This is just a personal niggle of mine as pavlova is my favourite desert and it annoys me when it isn't done properly. I enjoyed the brownie and cheesecake though.

The room was a little pokey but there was good attention to detail and it was well equipped. The products in the bathroom were of good quality and there was fresh fruit and homemade biscuits. My only criticism would be that it didn't seem that the room had been cleaned that thoroughly when we returned to the room on our second night. A used flannel which had been left on the bathroom floor was put back onto the sink for some reason.

We also enjoyed the breakfast. The cooked breakfast was all perfectly done. There was toast and a good selection of homemade preserves, fruit salad, muesli and pastries. We had a view of the garden from where breakfast was served. A particularly nice touch was that the garden was filled with bird feeders and was swarming with diverse bird life, despite being winter.

The hotel is in a pleasant location various local walks. We made use of the maps provided that were printed on water proof paper. Another example of the attention to detail shown by the owners. We also appreciated the fact that the hotel allowed dogs to stay. Overall we enjoyed our stay and felt we got value for money.

A friendly cat on reception, a fabulous room, with bath and separate shower (it was a special room for a special event) and a lovely seating area. Tea and coffee facilities good with fresh milk on offer (a marker of quality for me).

The managed our vegetarian request well (but be warned you have to order veggie sausages the night before).

All this and you feel virtuous due to the green credentials. The staff were great and waited up for us as we were home very late after a trip to the Kielder Observatory.

We will be back
