We stayed one night on a Travelzoo deal, which was very good value. The included 7 course tasting menu and breakfast were extremely good, and the (additional cost) wine package with dinner was well chosen and ample. The dining room, lounge and garden were very nicely laid out and all the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were not so good however, and we did try two. They were rather pokey, the decor and furniture were tired and the walls wafer thin so we listened to the man next door snoring for quite some time! The location of the hotel was good and the total lack of any mobile phone network signal was a bonus too.

What a fabulous hotel- great location, great rooms and wonderful food. Garden looked lovely but weather not really good enough to enjoy it.

We stayed in room 15, which was spacious and well fitted with a great bathroom with large shower and large spa bath, we couldn't have asked for more.

We stayed with the hotels two night dinner bed and breakfast meal and were very surprised that the three course meal included anything in the menu. The food was excellent with great little touches that make your day and all staff were very nice and helpful.

We would highly recommend this excellent hotel.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 15, a superior room and well worth it, corner room with 3 windows but still quiet, great bathroom and includes a settee

Initially found via a 'deal' site but on visiting their web site realised they offered a better direct priced break for us.
Great location
Lovely hotel and very friendly caring staff and owners. Friendly guests too
Great gardens and the owner took time out to show my hubby around the gardens and explained all about their green credentials
The rooms were spacious and spotlessly clean and tidy. Bathroom great. Rooms had everything you could have needed - I've stayed in some very expensive hotels that didn't have as may room facilities
Food was excellent and wine list varied and good and bar stocked a good selection of drinks - particularly liked the local jack Cain gin.
We had the tasting menu the first night and ALC the second both very good - my preference was the ALC
Great location for exploring a bit of Northumberland
We will return

I have been fortunate to stay at Battlesteads on several occasions and each time it gets better. The welcome and friendliness has always been there but the recent refurbishment of a number of rooms has been a huge bonus. So much care has gone into the choice and type of beers available, superb wines from sustainable sources and food glorious food, all provided with a smile, a can do attitude, efficiency and value for money. And if you have a dog - no problem.

Battlesteads needs to be visited to fully appreciate its attributes. Is it the quintessential inn, the perfect hostelry, a template for others to follow? That is for you to decide but for us indeed it was. You should also ask for a tour of the hotel's eco-facilities - they are fascinating and once again a beacon with which to lead others. Thank You Battlesteads - you did us proud!

While there, visit Hadrian's Wall and the beautiful Kielder Water - because you're worth it.

Booked to stay 1 night en-route to Edinburgh. Arrived in poor weather and we were at first a little disappointed with the exterior, the lack of views and the reception area which had boxes stacked in it.Our Reception was great and very friendly & efficient. We were shown to our room - the corridors and stair case could do with a good vacuuming or replacement carpet because first impressions are important and do not do the remainder of the place justice. Our room was superb and worth paying for the superior room - 2 showers and a jacuzzi bath and a large flat screen television.View of the car park from one window and over the countryside from the other.Very comfortable bed and a sofa to watch tv from. Our evening meal and accompanying wine was excellent in every respect.Starters were very good followed by a shared a rack of lamb which was superbly cooked and presented. The service was also excellent- friendly and efficient without being obtrusive. Our deserts were very good as well. Had a coffee and drinks in the comfortable bar after dinner and chatted to some other guests who also had thoroughly enjoyed their meals. After a comfortable nights sleep( quiet outside) we enjoyed our hearty breakfasts. We will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for the Superior room you won't regret it
