Lovely hotel, very comfortable. Loved having breakfast in the conservatory and watching all the birds.
Fabulous attention to detail.
Staff were all very helpful and knowledgeable without being "over the top".
Good location for nearby attractions.
Restaurant food was extremely tasty and well presented.

Stayed with Coast 2 Coast mates about 25 of us, we were made to feel welcome from start to finish. The food is delicious, the staff so helpful and super efficient, they even took our rubbish and recycled the empty water bottles from the support van. Loved the Nature board information and the beautiful gardens. Well worth a trip

Stayed with wife & friends on a weekend on the Roman Wall. Food is fabulous, locally sourced & much home grown. The cooking is great and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. Rooms are superb, not only well appointed but fresh fruit & ground coffe with french press in each room shows that no detail is too small. The beer of course is excellent [as you'd expect from someone who once owned the Magnesia Bank] but the crowning glory is the grounds with superb flower displays, vegetable gardens, poly-tunnels & fruit cages and umpteen species of bird & butterfly to marvel at whilst you eat in the conservatory. An absolute gem,

Unfortunately I have no idea what the "Best out there" Box below means so I don't know whether I should tick it or not. However this hotel si the "Best there is".

3 middle aged couples overnighted after a arduous mountain bike ride around Kielder water. We're not used to cycling. Really enjoyed our nights stay. Rooms not modern by city standards but very clean with extra touches like fruit - perfectly acceptable. Lovely gardens and conservatory. Wood panelled and atmospheric bar - bit on the pricey side. But the highlight was the food. Had my best ever crispy duck, and everyone rated their meals highly. Very friendly staff and locals.

Would definitely recommend the place to others.

Cycling the Hadrian Way with four friends we took a 5 mile detour north of Hadrian's Wall to stay at Battlesteads at Wark. Recently refurbished the rooms were very well appointed and comfortable. The evening meal was delicious with much of the herbs & vegetables grown by the hotel on their land immediately behind the building. After breakfast we were given a tour of the green facilities (boiler) and the vegetable garden before we set off to complete the ride to Newcastle.
Apparently for those walking the wall the hotel will arrange a pick up and drop off from the wall so it is an easy place to stay.

We booked here as our first choice was unavailable, and aren't we glad that we did! Really comfortable well-equipped rooms and friendly service throughout. Nice touches included fruit and bottled water in the room plus refillable lotions and potions in the bathroom.

Good food served by pleasant staff and excellent breakfast - unusually pre-ordered for a specific time the night before.

Only slight gripe - there was no electrical socket (that I could find anyway) near the mirror to plug in the hairdrier.

The Battlesteads has all the ingredients for a wonderful holiday: Comfortable rooms, friendly and attentive staff who work well as a team, excellent breakfasts and evening meals with fresh local ingredients imaginatively prepared (the breakfast kippers and jams are to die for, as are the steaks and the lamb dishes). There's a cosy bar and a beautiful walled garden based on environmentally friendly principles. Going back for another stay soon!
