“Wonderful meal - make sure you book!”
Reviewed 6 May 2014

We stayed one night, our room was very clean and comfortable, everything had been thought about in the room. We booked a table for our evening meal, we both opted for steak, and we both agreed that the meal was one of the best we have had for a long time. After our meal we retired to the bar where we received a very warm welcome from the regulars.
After a very good night's sleep we went down for breakfast and as the night before the food was excellent.
We will definately use the Horse & Groom the next time we visit the area!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 1 which had a velux window which we kept open at night, no noise was heard as it...

We stayed at this 17th Century Inn last night as we were attending a family event. The room was clean and very comfortable. The welcome we received was warm and friendly and the breakfast ths morning, probably the best I have ever had. Well recommended.

We have stayed twice now at this lovely pub. A family business with a great team.
Location is in a quiet village so no traffic noise. Supper in the bar was excellent , just the ticket. There are special menu evenings which fun in the village. Book early as there are only a few rooms and it is popular !

Been to the horse and groom with my family a number of times but only just got round to reviewing it! Had lots of lovely meals from the roast beef to a lovely large plaice. The service was lovely and efficient! We will be back again!

This pub was dead a few years back, but the current owners have brought it back to life by offering superb food in a lovely environment without alienating the locals, as is so often the case when a country pub is refurbished.
There are themed food nights: Monday's 2-4-1 Burgers are a must: super value and super tasty; Wednesday is Steak Night; Thursday is Curry Night; and there are some lovely fish dishes on a Friday. Roasts on a Sunday are so popular it's sensible to book well in advance.
Give it a go, it will not disappoint.
And look out for local celebrity dog, Dogga.

We found the Horse and Groom on our way to the Hook Norton brewery. We only had time for a quick lunch, but the sandwiches were scrummy. We saw the desserts coming out and were sorry we didn't have more time!!!

The twin room was comfortable, if a bit small, and had everything we required. I thought the pub was cold and lacked a bit of character on the first night but the following evening was curry night, which was very popular, and the fire was lit which helped make it much more cosy. The landlord and landlady were both very helpful and the staff were friendly. The full English breakfast was delicious but the cereals/fruit juice/preserves were limited. We ate here one evening and the meal was fine. I would certainly recommend this pub for a short stay. I wanted somewhere with a bit more olde worlde charm but that was my problem. This is a comfortable reasonably priced place to stay, near Banbury and close to the Cotswolds.
