Bang in town, unassuming and tucked into a corner of a slight downhill curve on Plaza Andalucia & corner of Calle Herreria (just a little down from the tourist office), in a tiny row of restaurants/bars but the tapas plates here blew our socks off. They had a blackboard (only in Spanish no translation) with around 15 plates listed which I assume changes daily with the odd one or two at EURO 2 but mainly all priced ridiculously low at EURO 1.5 each! Breaking the bank this place was not - - yes they also did set meals/menus for 10-15 Euros depending on choice both in English and Spanish but take my word just get the tapa plates it is so worth it. Each was brought out with a generous portion and prettily displayed with a salad garnish, more than one mouthful and certainly enough for two people to get a nice taste of each tapa. We immediately ordered another on sight of some of the plates before they even hit the table top they were that good!!!! For example things like – Two small breaded quails legs or some sort of poultry not chicken but tasted like it juicy and plump, Fried small sunny side egg on toast with melt in the mouth lump of Chorizo (better than it sounds), a breaded stuffed large red pepper with spinach, cheese and thick white sauce, nice small plate of crisp calamari, two fat king prawns wrapped in a sort of mashed potato then covered in curly fries and deep fried, large loin of venison triple decker open sandwich of melted cheese, tomatoes and lettuce with a few odd French fries and a great mustard dip! Service was excellent and they had a good few tables on the go at the same time, but please do note that they do not speak English well so it does help to know a few basic phrases but point and gesture works too. Not much to do in Setenil after soaking up the homes scooped into the rockface with its millions of photo opportunities – it’s a long lazy lunch spot with knobs on IMO.
