“Time of my Life!”
Reviewed 14 March 2012

We spent three days at Bushwise Safari. To say it was probably the best three days holiday ever enjoyed is no exageration. The position of Bushwise so close to the Kruger is amazing...The sights and sounds will live with you forever. Tim's hospitality is second to none, eating our meals outside by a campfire and under the stars was so atmospheric. Jumping into the Infinity swimming pool after the Safari will probably one of the best swims of my life!! I think Bushwise balances guests expectations for a certain luxury without losing any charm. The whole experience, including the safari arranged by Tim was excellent. I would very much hope to be able to visit again.

Arrived at Bushwise (for the second visit) whilst on a round trip of South Africa having visited Cape Town. Chose to fly into the nearby town of Nelspruit and was collected at the airport by a member of the Bushwise staff. Immediate sense of a "bush" experience. The lodge itself is an hour's drive from the airport. Stayed in a different room this time but all rooms are basically the same. The pool on the deck very welcoming after the flights from Cape Town. Taken into the Kruger Park the next day, with the guide from the lodge, which was once again an amazing experience. The variey of animals and birds and the knowledge of the guide was an experience I would urge everyone to have. The evening meal in the "Boma" ( a sort of encircled dining area in the bush, just by lodge) was also a great experience and chatting to the other guests was interesting. You do get the African bush experience at Bushwise!

My experience at Bushwise Safari Lodge was truly in a league of its own. They ticked all the right boxes in my book including service, accomodation, friendly staff and exhillirating Kruger Park Safari rides in the company of incredibly knowledgible guides. Annette is the hostess with the mostess and Tim has the storytelling ability of an 80 year old Khoisan man.
Thanks for a wonderfully relaxing Bushveld experience.

Room Tip: Room on the second floor give you a better view of the bordering Crocodile River.

We only stayed at Bushwise for one night on our way to Lukimbi Lodge, and we really enjoyed our stopover there. We were picked up at the airport by Werner, who had good stories about his adventures in the bush, and Tim was very welcoming once we arrived at the lodge, joining us on the deck for a soda and a chat. Our room was on the second floor with beautiful views of the Crocodile River. As another reviewer noted, this is not a luxurious lodge, but it's a great budget choice in a scenic location. The room was basic but had all of the amenities we needed (though a mosquito net would have been a great touch, as there were several insects flying around at night).
Our tasty steak dinner was served outside, boma-style, and breakfast was basic and good (toast, eggs, yogurt, cereal, coffee, juice). The highlights for us were enjoying an after-dinner whisky on the second-story deck while reading and watching the sunset, and then the next morning we went for a run along the river and almost ran into herds of zebra and impala on the road, and also a male warthog (who stared at us for a minute before trotting off). Below our balcony we spied a mother and baby warthog who were napping together, which was great to see.
We didn't go on safari with Bushwise, but when Tim and Annette drove us into Kruger to take us to Lukimbi, we spotted two lions lounging on the side of the road, and then a couple of rhinos and giraffes. I should also note that when I was inquiring about staying at Bushwise, Annette was very friendly and attentive to all of my questions via e-mail, so I felt confident that she and Tim would provide good service, which they did.
All in all, we would definitely stay at Bushwise again if we are looking for a budget lodge on our way into Kruger Park. Thanks, Tim and Annette!

Room Tip: The second-floor rooms have nice balconies with great views of the river.

Hi
Thank you all so much for your lovely reviews and kind words about our establishment - it is much appreciated. As one of our guests (when they arrive) and friends (when they leave) wrote in our guest book about Bushwise Safaris: The best of Africa distilled into one lodge - a huge compliment indeed. We only have five rooms at the lodge, keeping it small and personal. As a owner-managed 4-star lodge, with a hands-on approach, our costs are lower, so we are able to offer comfortable accommodation, outstanding safaris, delicious meals and service at affordable prices.
Hope to see you all again in the near future
Tim and Annette

English:
We booked for two nights and got memories for a lifetime. The lodge is great and I loved the open bar and infinity pool with view into Kruger with its wildlife right in front of you. Warthogs are passing the court and Hippos are grunting a few feet away from the fence.
Tim and Annette are very friendly, caring, humerous and very helping.
The guides (Tim & Werner) know to tell stories of their experiences in the bush - hillarious and exciting ones and always with a cheeky smile in their face.
We were lucky to be the only guests on our first evening and so we had the joy to experience the most romantic dinner ever - sitting outside at the logfire, delicious veggie food, wine, ...
I do not know what other lodges offer, but what I do know is that Tim, Annette, Werner and staff did everything to make our stay an unforgettable one.
Loved it!!!
