We love the atmosphere of this hotel. All the staff are very friendly, welcoming & helpful. We have stayed on a number of occasions recently, have enjoyed lovely cream teas, or just a glass of wine! Breafasts are ample & evening meals are delicious. Highly recommended also are the grounds - plenty of walking. The mile long drive down from the main road just makes one relax as you watch the wildlife and anticipate the pleasures ahead. I should point out that this is an old property that has had renovations works recently & I understand more are planned. We hope they don't overprice it when completed!

Room Tip: The cheaper rooms on the top floor are up some steep-ish steps, so beware! however, the beds are equ...

Has been subject to on going revamp. Charming and has become my favourite place e to stay when in area. Great breakfast Won't suite you if you want an immaculate modern hotel but is hundreds of years old and full of charm. Great gardens Don't want to overdo my review as I want to keep booking !!!!

I stayed here for three nights with my mum and baby daughter and had a fabulous time. The setting is beautiful;our suite looked out over the beautiful wild estuary. From the very first contact with staff (booking over the phone) they could not have been friendlier and more helpful. This was consistently the case, everyone we met at the hotel was just lovely and made us feel very welcome. One of the managers even dashed back to his own home one evening to help us out when we ran out of nappies - talk about bending over backwards to be helpful. Also the food was amazing and we slept very soundly in our beds.Thank you everyone for such an easy, pleasant stay.

We recently stayed overnight at Kitley House to celebrate a special occasion and had a private dinner party. The venue is superb, the meal was excellent and copious. The staff were all friendly, helpful and efficient. They made our stay special. All our guest, complimented both the venue and food and all intend to return.
We would like to say a big thanks to all the staff.

Kitley House Hotel is in a good location and has extensive grounds. The staff are excellent being pleasant, good humoured, polite and extremely helpful - nothing is to much trouble. Kitley House has a welcoming reception, impressive staircase, and the breakfast and dining rooms are lovely. The food is great, especially the breakfast. The rooms are on the whole a good size and have potential. However this is where the compliments end.
The hotel is in need of work. The room we stayed in was at the top of the hotel, there is no lift and the stairs are quite steep. The stairs did not worry us but might be of concern to the infirm as there is no help with luggage - Reception advised us the staff are not allowed to help due to health and safety. The window frames in the room are rotten and the window not easy to open and then would not close again. The shower could not be adjusted to run warm water so you either got burnt or frozen respectively. When we arrived in the room the bath was not cleaned properly and there was longterm dust around the mirror, and the box of tissues had only one tissue left sticking out the top. The doors of the all the rooms looked as though they needed a coat of paint.
The grounds of the hotel are extensive and outside the restaurant the garden is lovely but the rest of the grounds are overgrown and have a vast amount of weeds. Worse still in the middle of the weeds next to a dirty stream is a gazebo decorated (poorly) with wedding streamers and flowers. In order to get to the gazebo be prepared to walk down a steep slope amongst the weeds as there is no pathway. I personally would not want to hold my wedding reception here. The driveway is long and has a lot of potholes so be careful if you have eaten!

Room Tip: Room on first floor is more expensive but more spacious. Sooms at back of hotel have a better view.

Hi there.

Thank you for your feedback on Kitley; and for your kind comments about the staff. We do try very hard to please, and are really concerned that somebody got the policy about carrying bags to rooms totally wrong. We are a Grade 1 listed building, we cannot have a lift installed to the upper floors and so all staff are aware that we always offer to carry bags. We’ve reinforced that message on the back of your comments.

You’ll be pleased to know that we are in the process of renovating our guest bedrooms, we now have some beautiful superior state rooms and the club rooms are being redecorated over the coming weeks and months. At the same time, our maintenance team have (in the last week or so) finally been able to get out into the gardens and give them the attention they deserve. You’ll doubtless appreciate that with the weather we had in the early part of the year, it was a bit of a challenge to get things done: the island the gazebo stands on was actually under water for much of the time!

Finally, we entirely accept that you personally might not want to hold your wedding at Kitley and we understand that – a wedding location choice is a deeply personal decision and not one we ever try to “hard sell”. We feel that we run a fabulous wedding day and would be very happy to put you in contact with any of the couples who have recently married here (or any of the 94 couples who will be tying the knot over the next 18 months at Kitley) for a testimonial on their experience.

Kitley is not a chain hotel, we are definitely idiosyncratic and proud of the fact, but we do always welcome constructive feedback and so again, thank you for taking the time to rate us.

Very polite and friendly staff. Lovely setting. Food excellent. House has beautiful, interesting period decor, very attractive. This is the second time we have stayed here and will definitely stay again. Very convenient for visiting family in Plymouth without being in the city center.

Excellent. Will be staying again. Breakfasts excellent. Attitude of working staff excellent. Will most certainly be staying again, I find the need for minimum number of words un-necessary.
An excellent stay.

Room Tip: Can't help. Our room was excellent.
