This was our second stay ay Kitley House. We like the atmosphere and the charm of this delightfully positioned old style hotel. We were told that due to a change of ownership and internal improvements that dogs are no longer allowed. In the light of this ruling, we made alternative arrangements for our dog and then checked in. Ironically, the room we were given had not been improved at all, the carpets, décor etc exactly as before !!
The restaurant, previously full of character with a library feel about it, had been almost completely stripped of books, giving the room less character than before.
At breakfast, the spread of fruits, cereals and yogurts had diminished, but, I guess was 'adequate'. The cooked breakfast was very nice.
The staff are nice and friendly, the hotel is peaceful, thus providing a good nights sleep.
Although the improvements were not too positive or visible, we still like the ambience of this characterful place and look forward to staying there again.
The staff are friendly

Charming country hotel in a beautiful location. The staff are very friendly and nothing too much trouble. Unfortunately there was no cold water coming through the tap on our bath, which was a pain considering I had a child which needed a nightly bath. Despite reporting this, it was not repaired before our departure. However we did receive a discount for each night which made up for the inconvenience.
The accommodation is undergoing refurbishment, so it maybe worthwhile requesting a refurbished room, however the room we stayed in was fine and clean albeit a little tired.
I would recommend and stay at Kitley again.

Room Tip: Request a refurbished room

we spent our wedding night in the bridal suite (Churchill room), and it's the most stunning room to stay in. Spacious, elegant, comfy, classy. Nothing was too much trouble. we asked for a later checkout, we asked for breakfast in bed, and other requests which they responded brilliantly too. The grounds are incredible. it's a really romantic and peaceful place to stay.

Came in from Frankfurt Germany and drove all the way from London. But Kitley House was just what we needed then. Beautiful location, very friendly staff and excellent accomodation. Highly recommended.

We stayed one night at Kitley this week. Above all else the menu was exceptional. Good range of choice, innovative, creative, appropriately sized portions, and the food was cooked to perfection with every flavour coming through. Delicious, right down to the individual fresh loaves cooked and served in miniature flower pots. It was one of the best meals I have ever eaten, and we have eaten in some top class restaurants over the years. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and worked very hard, serving both the bar and the restaurant. Perhaps one more pair of hands would have helped them, though they were by no means harassed or slow - the timing of the courses was exactly right. My only grumble would be that the legs of the table got in the way and prevented the seat from being totally comfortable, but this was soon eclipsed by the excellence of the meal. It is so rare to find such quality without the trappings of hype and celebrity, not to mention price. Well done Kitley, don't let that chef get away!

The bedroom at the top of the house was sufficient, though no toiletries other than soap but reception was happy to provide some when asked. Lovely big towels. The beds are very comfortable with lots of pillows and thick duvets. Everything was very clean, including the shower curtain which is often a stumbling block in hotels. The shower was modern and strong with plenty of hot water - and it stayed at the temperature you set it. The grounds are lovely, totally peaceful, and there is an interesting hour's walk around the estate through the woods by the lake - good for working off the excellent breakfast (first course buffet, main course served,) and which is freshly cooked using local produce. A fresh fruit salad would be a nice addition to the lovely fresh pastries and other traditional breakfast dishes.

We shall return as soon as we can, and for longer - we need to try more dishes on the menu.

Room Tip: Suites have four poster beds, but all rooms are good. Top of the house requires some stair climbing...

My husband and I booked in for 2 nights. We included dinner on the first evening. The setting was beautiful. We were in a standard room which was at the top of a narrow staircase. The furniture and fittings were dated. The plumbing needed serious attention during our stay.
Although friendly, the bar and restaurant staff appeared inexperienced and the service left much to be desired. We were disappointed to be told that the bar was closed shortly after 11pm on our last evening.
All the meals we had in the hotel were excellent.

Room Tip: Book a suite/superior room
