We booked The Lands of Loyal for our wedding anniversary. The approach to the hotel is quite stunning. A magnificent country house in lovely gardens with panoramic views. The main hall which awaits is equally stunning and true to its Scottish roots. The centre piece is a huge feature fireplace with a roaring log fire and sitting in this historical setting, taking a drink of your choice served in cut glass, is wonderful.
The restaurant was delightful. The menu was limited and not sufficiently extensive to cater for all tastes, but was a good standard. Wine list reasonable with a middle of the road Rioja priced at £18.
We booked a superior room in the main hotel but on arrival we were placed in a suite in the adjoining coach house. The downside for us was the suite was a fully equipped disabled suite and all that comes with it. Yes very spacious but not in keeping with our expectation of a romantic getaway.
The hotel is very popular with hunters and attracts many foreign visitors with such an interest. Quite a remote location, very peaceful but not far from many interesting places such as Glamis Castle, Scone Palace etc. Not walking distance to the local pub but the hotel has a characteristic traditional Scottish bar, though service was a bit hit and miss. Overall an interesting experience and very good value for money.
