We stayed at Camp Dev Vilas for 2 nights in December, and enjoyed our stay here, largely because we had an excellent guide and great experiences visiting nearby Kanha National Park. Camp Dev Vilas is on the outskirts of Baihar village, about 20-30 minutes' drive to the southern Mukki Gate of Kanha park. As such, it appears to be one of the most distant lodges from the park, although that only means that you spend a bit of extra time getting to and from the park for each game drive. As safari lodges go, it's relatively basic. There is a huge dining hall, which we had all to ourselves during our stay, vastly out-numbered by the staff. Meals are taken here, and we had reasonable food, but nothing to get excited about. The service was incredibly attentive (being the only guests), at times over-attentive if anything. The tented cabins are spacious and comfortable, albeit somewhat basic. We had a couple of plumbing problems, but these were quickly rectified once we brought them to the manager's attention. Although this lodge is not in the same league as the more up-market boutique safari lodges, it's a perfectly decent, even somewhat charming budget option for visiting Kanha.
