I was coming to visit the monkey park. I chose this hotel based on the high TA ratings and a 4 star rating in booking.com. This hotel is tired and worn. It certainly is not a 4 star hotel near more like a one star or a 1 1/2 star hotel. It was absolutely not worth what I paid, and I would not recommend it to others.

Staff are very friendly, we felt like VIP guests, they bent over backwards to accomidate us. Mr Watanabe speaks great english and gives a great welcome at the front desk. We spent 2 days and 2 nights here and wished we could have stayed on longer. Food was amazing, very authentic Japanese Cuisine. Rooms were spacious and very clean. They have their own onsen at the hotel (great after a day in the snow)and a beautiful fireplace where we spent our evening. We would definitely come back here and highly recommened this hotel to anyone. 5 Stars!

On our Jan. 2010 ski trip to Shiga Kogen, my two ski buddies and I spent 4 nights at the Shiga Palace Hotel located on the mountain. Accomodations were immaculate with breakfast and dinner buffet included. Skiing was terrific. We also spent 3 nights at the sister hotel, Ryokan Biyu No Yado, in the village of Yudanaka. This hotel was even more luxurious and the rooms were detailed superbly. Both hotels have onsens. Rental ski equipment is available on the mountain, but we brought our own. The English speaking staff were so helpful and shuttled us daily to any of many ski fields. Terrific value and caring staff at both hotels made our ski vacation wonderful and relaxing. Nagano is a short train ride from Yudanaka if one wanted to do some shopping in the city.

Looking for an excellent stay with meals included and staff that actually SPEAK ENGLISH? Check out the Shiga Palace Hotel. It is a charming older property with a wonderful woody lobby, big fire place, and a well stocked convenience store. The best part? The Japanese bath and the all you can eat buffet, breakfast and dinner! AND they price is right! Yen for Yen it is an unbeatable value. and only 100 yards from the ski lift. If you are in the Shiga area for a ski. Check this place first!!!

We were recommended this hotel, as well as its sister hotel, Biyu no Yado Yudanaka View Hotel ,by the ticket office on a Navy base and for good reason. They took wonderful care of my family and ensured that we had a great skiing experience. Our children had never seen snow and never had been on a ski slope before. Not only was this a fabulous place for the novice beginner, they had very challenging slopes for my experienced husband. This hotel is in the same region where the 1998 Nagano Olympics were and the ski conditions could not have been better. The hotel was very clean and the food was amazing on the buffet that comes complimentary with the room charge. They had rental equipment on site and even had ski goves to give me when mine got soaking wet. The onsen was relaxing and is downstairs in the hotel. There is no charge to use it and is open 23 hours of the day. We will definately go back again to stay here and recommend it to anyone who wants a Great Japaneese Style hotel with complimentary Onsen that is affordable and cozy. The staff will do everything in thier power to make your visit a great one. The snow monkey park is just down the mountain maybe a 20 minute drive and is a must see. They even called us by cell phone the day before we got there to let me know that is was heavily snowing and to make sure we had tire chains when we came up the mountain so that we would have a safe trip. We loved this place and are planning to go back. Also, they have night skiing available from 6:30-9:00pm, and the lift tickets were very affordable.
