I am an onsen aficionado, traveled extensively through Japan and I’ve found the ultimate onsen inn called the Biyu No Yado ryokan in Yudanaka. I cannot say enough about the staff, their service, superior, gourmet meals and proprietress Yuki-san who is the heart and soul of the inn. She speaks perfect English and gives totally of herself to make it a memorable stay for her guests.

My husband and I stayed at the Biyu No Yado with friends from Hawaii. There were no boundaries to Yuki San's generosity. I was overwhelmed when she had her staff driver Shane take me on a free tour of Yudanaka town. Shane dropped me off at the Jigokudani Monkey Mountain first, and at a designated time, he picked me up to see the Nagano Olympic Museum and Shiga Koen while my husband and friends were golfing.

It was mid afternoon when Shane suggested I hike up to a nearby hill near the ryokan to see the giant Heiwa Kannon Buddha (Goddess of Mercy) emerging against the colorful background of fall. It was a breathtaking view. There were lots to do and see in one day at Yudanaka. After the hike, I was ready to relax in the onsen. There were 2 onsens; one inside and the other outside called a rotemburo.

Dinner was a kaiseki meal consisting of Shinshu beef grilled in butter at the table with fresh mushrooms we picked off of a bark on which the mushrooms were growing on. The presentation of the entrees was a spectacular visual experience. The array of appetizers and entrees tasted exquisite. The Biyu No Yado will always be our home away from home as it exceeded all of my expectations as a first class, unforgettable ryokan. I would highly recommend this ryokan for an experience of a lifetime.

We stayed there during the christmas weekend in 2012 and everything about it was worth it. The food was high quality and top notch and the service was excellent. The comfort and quality in the rooms was unparalleled and this trip is a must for people looking for any type of holiday.

Our recent trip to Japan, we had an opportunity to vis1it a beautiful town of Yudanaka and stay at Ryokan Biyu no Yado. Our group consisted of 6 people of 3 generations from grand parents to little 2 grand daughter. We have to say that all of us had a fun and relaxing time there. The owner and staff are very helpful and friendly. There is hotel staff who can speak English, Thai and Chinese. Our rooms was upgraded to a suite and one with a private outdoor onzen (hotspring) which was very convenient for my in-laws. I and the girls were using the hotel onzen located on the first floor. It was the girls first onzen experience and they enjoyed it so much that I had to take them again on the second day.
Breakfast and dinner are included and both meals were fabulous. It was a real Japanese course meal. I love Sukiyaki! Restaurant staff are attentive.
The hotel offer shuttle service to and from Yudanaka station and the monkey park.
If you are traveling to Japan and visiting Nagano area. This hotel is highly recommened. Only a short train ride from Nagano city.

Could not ask for anything more. Fantastic service, food, onsen. We were picked up from the station, driven to snow monkey park, and to the mountain for snow boarding. All stuff are great however Shane is amasing, is able to communicate in English and was always happy to help in anyway.

This Ryokan was suggested by our travel agent as we wanted to see the Snow Monkeys, and I am so glad she found this one! On arrival we were greeted by an English speaker staff member called Shane who also drove us up to the Monkey Park. He dropped us off at 1:30pm and picked us up at 4:30pm, just a suggestion if you are going to the Monkey park 3 hours is far too long, 2 hours max will be just fine. When we got back to our hotel he showed us to our room and told us about to get around the hotel. Our room was fantastic! We has breakfast and dinner included in the overall price and opted for the traditional japanese dinner and an American style breakfast, both were delicious!

This is probably the best hotel I have stayed in while in Japan. From picking us up at the train station to dropping us off the next day the hotel offered us excellent service from start to finish. The hotel rooms were spacious, we had a room for four, and the food in the hotel restaurant was beautiful and traditional, they were also able to provide a vegetarian meal for me, which isn't always easy in Japan. The hotel onsen were also lovely, they have a male and a female one which they change over every night so be careful!
The location was excellent for a trip to the snow monkey park, we were dropped off near the entrance but enjoyed a lovely walk back through the town and enjoyed stopping off at a Sake brewery, which had been pointed out to us on the drive up. Unfortunately we were a bit too early for the snow this year, but it looked like it would have been an amazing place to visit in the snow.
The traditional breakfast in the morning was maybe a bit too traditional for some of the members in my group, so next time I may opt for the American one.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone who was interested in visiting the onsen town or the snow monkeys, it was well worth the money!

On our two-week trip in Japan, this ryokan proved to be the best one - well worth venturing off the beaten path. The staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. We were pleasantly surprised with how big the rooms were. This ryokan strikes a great balance between traditional Japanese features and more modern indulgences (such as an in-suite shower). The Kaiseki dinner was very impressive, with great service. In traditional style, we slept on futons on tatami mats, and when our rooms were made up, we found decadent comforters in place to keep us warm through the night. My only regret is that I didn't seize the opportunity to try the hot-spring baths.
