“Stay Elsewhere, Like A Hostel!”
Reviewed 11 August 2013

We stayed here in room 6 for 1 night mid August. We paid £60 for a room which I can only compare to a hostel!

The house is located about 10 mins walk from Marple centre. The B & B itself is a large old house with dated décor, It is not charming as others have stated. On arrival we were met and given keys but not shown to our room, on departure we paid and left, really cant add anymore than that to the customer service element.

Our room consisted of a sink, wardrobe, double bed, coffee and tea making facilities and an old TV. Very Dated

We really like B & Bs when traveling and most are a fantastic standard for around £60 per night (usually with ensuite)

Stay Elsewhere or get a cab to Stockport for one of the hotels there!

Stayed with friends at this B&B. Room was on ground floor and had to walk across the lobby area to go to the bathroom which was fine as long as there were no other guests around ( not comfortable if you are in your nightie!). Room had no wardrobe or hooks on which to hang up clothes so these were left draped over the 2 settees and 2 armchairs and over the spare third bed in the room. Room had no washbasin and the kettle was on the hearth of the fireplace in the room. Others in my party had a room at the top of the house ( again with a shared bathroom) but they did have a wardrobe and a sink to use. Their room was small with just 2 single beds and not much of a view whereas the ground floor room had magnificant views over the countryside.

However, both rooms were very clean and the breakfast was very good and the hosts did OK. As previous reviewers have said this house is full of Victorian architecture and oddities which will keep you amused.

The price for bed and breakfast was very reasonable but if I was staying longer than 1 night I would ask for a room with an ensuite.

I would certainly stay here again if I needed to.

Room Tip: Choose an ensuite room if you can.

We stayed for six nights having moved from a local Premier Inn in the area. Oakfield is a traditional B&B with character. From checking inn you are made to feel at home. The en suite rooms are spacious and spotless in every way. The breakfasts are excellent with home cooked food and with a wide selection on offer. I wish we could have stayed longer and would certainly come back again for either business or pleasure. Ideally suited in a great central location with easy access to the historic canals of Marple and the Derbyshire hills beyond.

Oakfield Lodge doesn't feel like a Hotel - it's like someone's home - which I suppose it is!On our arrival, Our Hosts coped well - we turned up at the same time as a fairly large group of people who'd been on the same train as us, and we all needed sorting out. Our room was huge and spotlessly clean, with splendid views. Breakfast was great, and it was nice chatting to other guests.
What used to be a guest lounge has become a bedroom, but the weather was glorious so we sat in the garden with the papers. Nice play area, but I wouldn't have let my kids use the paddling pool.
Lorraine was very helpful re directions to Church, and we were allowed to leave our bags in the office and collect them after Mass [well after check-out time] - another plus.

Room Tip: Make sure you're not in the basement at the front.

the whole family stayed here to attend my nephews wedding at bramhall hall. it was great for a big party as there were over 20 of us. Rooms 1, 2 and 3 were lovely big and with fabulous views. the other rooms tiny but ok so we could all be in one place. Breakfast was nice and tasty and we were all able to eat together. I would certainly stay here again

The lodge is a big old rambling house with loads of character and fantastic views from the rear. Lorraine the lady owner makes you feel very welcome and relaxed.
My room was huge, very clean and tidy.
Breakfast is served in a nicely laid out room with large tables so that you can get to know people and was a good fry up.
Outside is a bus stop for regular buses either to Stockport or the train station is literally round the corner with a good service to Manchester.
Overall very good value for money.

When I rang to book the room; Lorraine was very helpful and friendly. Service whilst we were there was good. Breakfast was substantial, offering a wide choice. The room was clean and comfortable. The location is ecxcellent and the views are beautiful. A very pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the back of the hotel have amazing views of the countryside!
