“Beautiful”
Reviewed 13 March 2014 via mobile

Happy to report that the spa construction is complete and it is absolutely beautiful, just like the rest of the hotel. Upon arrival I was so what uncertain whether we would hear road noise; glad to say that from our Mittersill-facing room, we heard nothing at all. It pays to book a room with a balcony as these have bigger, floor length windows - all the better to enjoy the view with. The hotel is full of history, pays to arrive on a Saturday and join the guided castle tour. Breakfast is good and dinners are pure delight, compliments to the chef.
A minor irritation includes the ongoing work in the courtyrad (hopefully this too would be completed soon), otherwise a wonderful stay in beautiful settings.

From its spectacular location to its outstanding facilities and rooms, Schloss Mittersill is an exceptional place to stay. The views over the valley and mountains to all sides are wonderful and the incorporation of up-to-date rooms and a modern spa into the historic castle fabric has been beautifully done. Renovation was just being completed as we arrived including the opening of a spectacular spa area with outdoor pool.

The food was also very good and the staff always welcoming. We stayed in a very spacious suite and would happily recommend Schloss Mittersill to anyone.

Room Tip: Quite a range of rooms so worth looking carefully through the website.

Great location, beautiful views. The hotel has great potential but it isn't quite there yet.

The hotel seems to be under renovation. They are creating a spa and additional rooms. But they sort of push the guest's tolerance level to the limit. The area leading to the elevator for the spa has a broken armoire, one day had beds stacked up in the corridor, the hallways smelt of cement and renovation. All that is acceptable if it happens one day and if the management lets you know it is temporary but they seemed to assume that guests had to accept that the hotel was partially under renovation without any explanation or apology. Not exactly my idea of a four star hotel experience.

The hotel also lacks some basic details which are quite surprising in a four star hotel:

- there are no phones in the room

- the breakfast buffet is in a beautiful dining room but they have the doors wide open to the kitchen which sort of kills the armosphere, specially since the kitchen is quite ugly

- no bellboy to help you with the luggage even though the parking is 500metres from the hotel lobby

- no minibar and no possibility to order breakfast in the room. Or maybe you could order it but the service directory was only in German so impossible to know. And there was no phone in the room so I can't see how one could order breakfast

- a spa with no reception area which means that loud children come and leave as they please without their parents, screaming and jumping in and out of the pool. Needless to say it kills the purpose of a relaxing spa....

- an underequipped fitness that only had one cardio machine. Two days later a treadmill appeared but there was no sign to indicate that the fitness was only partially finished or "work in progress". Again the management seemed to take for granted that guests are expected to accept and understand that they are paying for a stay in a hotel under renovation. Of course no water or towels in the fitness....

Overall, the impression is that the hotel has potential, a hypothetically nice spa and friendly hotel staff but they need to get their act together and work on the details to make it a wonderful experience and not expect guests to assume that the renovation is part of the decor.

Amazing location on the top of a small peak right above the valley.
The castle has a late medieval atmosphere, warmed by the wooden rich interiors.
Excellent view from the room over the valley.
Spacious recently renovated room, large comfortable bed.
Very nice bathroom with a huge shower.
Both the breakfast and the dinner were excellent.
We stayed there for a long week-end and used it as a base to visit the Hohe Tauern National Park: Grossglockner pass, Krimml falls, but there's much more in the area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view over the valley. It's great.

We spend 4 days at this amazing castle. We were upgraded into one of the older rooms. The room where Henry Ford is rumored to also have stayed when he visited Austria. The beautiful ambience was complemented with delicious local food in the castle.

Room Tip: Ask for Henry Ford.

Very happy with the overall setup and service. Hotel is beautifully restored. The half board is good value. The only downside for us was that you'll need a car to get around, as all other services are in the town within a 15 minutes hiking distance.

Staying at this castle was the highlight of my 3 week trip. We enjoyed every part of our stay. the atmosphere, the service, the food, everything about our stay was amazing. We did the castle/wine tour and enjoyed it very much. The views are amazing. We enjoyed our walk into the town of Mittersill. I would definitely stay here ago.
