“Great place to stay”
Reviewed 24 February 2013

We spent a week here and had a great experience. The food is probably the best to be found in San Carlos or even Coronado and reasonably priced. The beach is a short walk away and the grounds are beautiful. The staff is very helpful. The rooms are nice and spacious and have a balcony. We would definitely stay here again. We highly recommend it.

Our stay at the Manglar Lodge was wonderful. The owner's name is Ivan and he is the perfect host. He was very helpful with directions to different places and suggested places of interest for us to see in the area. Ivan made our stay more pleasurable. The food and drinks are great. The staff is attentive and friendly. The rooms are modern and clean. What more could you ask for? I would gladly go back to the Manglar Lodge. Pat & Charlie

Ivan and his wife were incredibly gracious hosts. The food was beyond spectacular and the fact that there are so few rooms makes this quiet get away in San Carlos, Panama the ideal spot. Easy access to all the local breaks and only 30 minutes from El Valle and a host of other neat places to see. I would recommend this place highly to all my friends. If you are looking for a secluded place that is away from it all but also a close drive to the things you need at the local stores, this is the spot. I will return for sure!

Maybe our review is a bit lower than the others. To be honest that isn't totally to blame the hotel but to our research when going here. We had different expectations about the room. On forehand we made sure that the rooms had a balcony/terrace because when going to a place like this it's important to us that we can sit or be outside. However our (huge) room didn't had a balcony and although it was an allright room, we felt 'locked up' being in it. There is an area next to the parking area where there are some comfortable chairs and so we spent some time here.

We stayed in this hotel for two nights and used it as a 'break' between our drive from Boquete to Panama International Airport. There isn't a lot to do here (we think) except a beach on the other side of the parking area. But as we found this beach to be a bit filthy and tiny, with rough sea, we didn't stay there and drove to Farallon to be at the beach there. We missed an information book with information about the hotel and area as the person at the reception desk - although friendly - couldn't help us with this.

The hotel has a restaurant with a large menu and nice food. The restaurant has a nice terrace but in the evening you'll be eated by insects so it's better to sit inside. But with bright white lights it doesn't feel very cosy.

Be aware that the reception desk doesn't open untill 08:30 in the morning! We didn't realise that and had to wait for an hour to check out so our drive to the airport was very stressfull as we had a flight to catch. (We made it in time.)

We stayed a night at Manglar Lodge on Saturday - or rather tried to....our car broke down on the way from Panama! We called Ivan to explain our predicament & he sent a local taxi to come & fetch us although finding us wasn't so easy as we weren't exactly sure where we were on the motorway! Nevertheless we did reach the lodge & thought it to be a magical place. So a huge thank you to Ivan & his team (who also helped us on Sunday to return to the car) for service beyond the call of duty. You have an amazing chilled out place & great staff. We hope to return next year in a car that works!! Kindest regards, Annie Vernon

We stayed here one night. It was difficult to find, gps did have the address and my confirmation sheet from hotels.com did not have directions. With no cell phone service, we had a tough time finding this place. I highly suggest that you write directions given on the website down.

The rooms are well appointed and spacious. The stairs to the rooms are pretty steep and a little hard to carry your luggage. Only complaint about the room was that the bed was way too firm , I could not sleep on it. It should be noted that this hotel is very close to the beach, but not oceanfront. It wasn't a problem for me, but if you are expecting a ocean view you will be disappointed.

It is very clear that the owners and workers take a lot of pride in this property, and it's beautifully maintained.

Like the last reviewer stated the hours were a little short, we came down for breakfast at 8 am and the office and restaurant were closed. I was wondering if we had to leave early where we would have left our keys.

We ended up eating right across the way at a waterfront restaurant. There isnt alot in this area to do, a couple of other hotels and the beach. It's a peaceful, quiet area. If you are looking for lots of activities, you may get a little bored.

All in all , it was a nice stay!

Thanks taking the time to write a review on our place. I love the feedback that our guest gave us. about the directions our website has a page with all the directions to get to our place from panama city and the other way from chiriqui. Since it is a lot of info the reservation web site does not include it. Is always good to visit the hotel website and print those pages
About breakfast we open at 8.30am we tell most of our guest about it during check and there is a little sign on the door with our hours

We booked two rooms which were right next door to each other. My husband and I had the room with the king sized bed. The room was quite spacious and very clean. We travel a lot so I tend to be a bit of inspector when I check into a hotel. That said, the one small thing that I noted when I did my routine inspection was hair on the sheets and pillow case from the previous customer. Apparently the housekeeper did a shotty job of changing the sheets:( This was not a deal breaker though. The bed was comfortable, pillows were great, A/C worked perfectly and the shower was spacious with copious amounts of hot water. We had a balcony with a nice bench, so we sat out there after dinner and it was very relaxing. The flat screen TV was a nice touch and the free Wi-Fi was an added bonus although the signal was a little weak so it worked best out on the balcony. My mom and my kids stayed in the room next door with the 2 double beds. Their room was equally as spacious and well appointed. Overall we had a nice stay but I would like to offer a few suggestions to the proprietor: the rug in the king bedroom should go as well as the bath rugs. As a customer I prefer bath mats that can be laundered in between customers. Lastly, it would be nice if the front desk either stayed open later or if you left the patrons contact information in the event of a problem. When I had the issue with the sheets, I went down to the desk but it was already closed and there was noone else available to assist us so we had to improvise. Great directions are provided on the website....thankfully....as we never would have found it on our own (there are no signs from the major highway) and my gps didn't pick it up either. But like I said the directions were perfect so we had no trouble getting there. We also loved the beach access. We all went for a walk during low tide and it was lovely. Manglar graciously provides outdoor showers to wash off the sand before heading up to the room which was a nice touch since one of the beaches that we walked on was black sand. Just as an FYI the hotel has a restaurant but it closed a little early for us. Fortunately right across the courtyard was another small hotel that offered dinner service until a later hour. Dinner was very good and the prices were reasonable. My mother who actually lives in Panama and does a fair amount of traveling herself with her senior group stated that she never knew about this hidden gem and she was definitely going to be reccommending that they stay there on future trips.

Room Tip: Both of our rooms were equally nice.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to write this great very detailed review that points out a lot a good things and others that is good to heard. We spoke the morning you were checking out and told me some of details on the review

About the hours the restaurant closes it is strange that you said that it was close early we close at the same time the restaurant across the courtyard and all the restaurants on San Carlos 9:00pm during weekday and if we had people eating we stay a little later.
For them that night you stayed here we stayed until 9.15 since you came back 8.50pm from taking the kids to eat out you mention coronado when you were earlier at the restaurant. We were waiting for you in case you want something to drink at night like a water bottle or a juice

After we close we had a night security that takes care of the place and walks around the property in case there is something important he can call me or the manager maybe you miss him and didn't saw him at 9.40pm when you walk to the reception

I really appreciate the time all our guest take you write reviews on our place. we read them and try to improve the things people point out

Thanks
