“Money, Batteries, Flashlights and shoes stolen!!!”
Reviewed 7 May 2008

The hotel is at best the worse small town american hotel but on a beach. There is no water or electricity frequently, especially in the middle of a shower, which is one stream of water - and is either extremely hot or cold. I also had things stolen, all that could be proved was returned. However since I did not have a cash withdrawal receipt, I could not prove the stolen money, between $80 and $100 - I had the receipt at home. No apologies offered only promises to provide a security box which was not provided and to secure the keys at the front desk. Yes believe it or not all keys are at the front desk in plain site and the desk is only occasionally manned. It is a hotel policy to leave your keys on the desk while you are out. My money was taken WHILE I was there at the beach at the hotel...take your wallets swimming with you!!! Best to not stay at this hotel!!!

They promised the world and Didn't deliever. We booked are stay for The New Years Eve Party. They promised lots of Activities, buffet & Free bottle of champagne. But im getting ahead of myself.First thing They Did not metion they are going through a major Renovation on the place. Our room was clean and air condtioning was cold.Thats the only positive. For the price you pay you would think they offer a tv bigger than 13 inch tv.They gave us clothe closet that particle board was about ready to fall apart. No towel racks in bathroom to hang wet towels.Oh they really went all out on giving you a 1/4 bar soap for the bathroom.Oh cell phone users theres no extra plugs for charging and in the bathroom had no plugs to hook up a hair dryer. So we worked around it we disconnected the tv and direct tv to get juice. No shower head in shower.Be ready to be knocked on your [-] from the steady stream of water.lol.food was very good. When we booked they said with the price of the room the new years buffet and a bottle champagne was included with the stay.Well suprize when we arrived that was not the case.We payed for the buffet upon arrival. And be prepared they prepared just enough for one sitting.Maybe i'm not familiar but usally a buffet means more than one plate of food.Entertainment was pretty good that evening. One thing that happen to me was I oredered a virgin Colada and when i received it I tasted alcohol in it.Well instead of making a new one they took it back to the bar stuck a straw in it and claimed it had no alcohol in it.Very Rude!!!!If they knew medical reason for me not having no alcohol maybe they would have treated me diffrent who knows???
Well to end a perfect evening (lol) we go to leave and the waitress asked us if we were staying at the hotel???Well if she was up on what the hotel was doing ,we had a wristband that showed we were stay at this fine establishment. We'll we found out why there were charges for the evenings drinks. They charged for the lemonade, colada and the glass of champayne.we didn't even get the bottle they promised my party to receive.
Oh by the way if you do decide to go there don't drink the water.Bring bottle water. There water taste like bleach.
This place has alot potential they just didn't show it during our stay

Originally we were to stay in a friend's duplex in the Altos del Maria area. As it turned out the people staying there extended their stay.

We traveled to the Bayview El Palimar Resort to check on a room. Since it was still the "low" season and a Monday we had no trouble getting a room.

We requested a king size, but this room was near the area where they were building a new second floor and the manager thought we might be unhappy about the location because of the noise. This we appreciated.

We were given a double/double. The manager showed us in a Panama travel book of small hotels the price and with tax it came to roughly $80 per night for the two of us. The room was very clean. However, there was no telephone, no place to set anything, not a single electrical outlet in the bathroom and the hot water was extremely difficult to regulate. There was a small portable television in the room with a cable box - but we were told it was not hooked up.

We had dinner there the first night. My husband ordered battered shrimp additionally he specifically said the number on the menu for his selection and I ordered the shrimp in butter. Each dinner was $9.50. When the waiter, Franklin, (who did speak quite a bit of English) brought the check each dinner was now $14.50. When questioned about the charge he told us that was the price of the langostinos (sp) which we did not order. Also, in checking the menu further we noticed that "battered" langostinos weren't even listed on the menu. He said he would talk to the cook. He came back and had deducted $2.00 off of each meal and that was that.

The following day my husband inquired about the television and cable - The manager said it was in fact hooked up and sent someone in to make the necessary adjustment.

All in all it wasn't terrible. But we had stayed in much better accomodations at less than half the price in Panama City where we also did not feel we were being taken advantage of.

  • Liked — It was very clean.
  • Disliked — It was over-priced when compared to other places we stayed that were better.

Stayed at Bay view in Jan. 2007 $87 for a double room. Mattress had a soft spot in the middle, room had some ants crawing through luggage. Food was overpriced compared to other area resurants. Beach was okay but not good for snorkeling. They told us breakfast was included when we checked in and had to be reminded at checkout to take it off the bill. Also if you order anything other than the continental breakfast they credit nothing towards your breakfast bill, I thought that was a little unfair. If I had paid $45 dollars I would have been happy. But for close to $90 I can get much better elsewhere. My advise, try somewhere else. Terry Waters, Iowa

Located on El Palmar Beach in San Carlos, Panama
We found the Bayview Resort in Playa San Carlos in a guidebook. It was a little bit difficult to find, as we drove around the VERY small town of San Carlos for a bit before we found it. It is nestled back in the beautiful trees right smack on the Pacific Ocean. We had to rent two rooms to accomodate the 5 of us, the single room was 40/night (including tax) and the double room was 44/night. We had cable tv, a/c and hot and cold running water! The beds were comfortable, although the pillows were a little flat (seemed to be the norm for all of Panama). The grounds around the swimming pool were phenomenal...truly paradise (see pic). There is a restaurant onsite, overlooking the Pacific where we had really great food for a really reasonable price (by American standards...was spendy for Panamanian standards, but we were happy with it). We had Balboa beer, appetizers and awesome main courses (served with some of the best pineapple juice ever) for a total of 45.00 for all 5 of us. We only stayed there one night, but it was very clean and the people were very VERY nice there. We felt totally safe and ran around barefoot most of our stay there. We found by being there in our summer (their winter), we had the place pretty much to ourselves.

  • Liked — clean and nice people, great location
  • Disliked — not a fancy place
  • Tips/Secrets — come with low expectations and you'll be pleased!
