“If it weren't for the onsen ...”
Reviewed 1 August 2014

This was the worst hotel among the 4 during our trip.

The worst was the food. We had buffet dinner as well next morning's buffet breakfast. Breakfast was passable, but dinner was really terrible - food was not fresh & not tasty, despite having lots of varieties. It was really bad especially for Japanese standard.

The hotel entertains lots tour groups. Lots of hustle & bustle at the public areas. Luckily no sleep interruption post midnite.

Our room was small, with toilet & wash basin using 2 separate doors - quite inconvenient. There was very little space to move about.

No wifi in room. I tried to use the wifi at lobby but it didn't work, & the man on duty was not helpful at all.

The only reason why I still rated it "average" instead of "poor", was simply because of the onsen. This was the best onsen among the three onsen hotels we went to. My skin became smoother & gassy stomach became well after the dip.

If I can find better or at least similar quality onsen around Hokkaido, I would not stay in this hotel again.

The hotel was very nice. The room is large, with normal beds confortable AND the japanese place with tatamis. The onsen is also very good, with different places and not too hot like it is the case normally. The dinner was also one of the best we had: a buffet but with good quality. It is very good to go here after visiting the park.

Interesting onsen “yukata” – looks like a pajama. The rooms are brightly lit. Great food. The onsen has several pools – 2 small outdoor pools which would be especially neat during the snow season, with a view of the river and the base of the mountain. They also have a sulphur pool, and several other regular pools. WIFI only in the lobby. There is a 7-Eleven store across the street.

I love the room assigned to me. It's a Japanese room and has a wooden door out at the front to look like the olden style houses. The room is huge! It has a sleeping area when the housekeepers come lay out the futon when you are out at dinner. It also has a sitting sofa chair area next to the windows. Another seating living area with tables and chairs with no legs. The living area has tea pot and cups and also a TV. The sleeping area also has a TV and a small safe. Toilets and shower/bathroom is separate and a small hallway for you to take off your shoes. I can get lost in this room. The only complaint if I must have one is the view is facing the road and not the river. But we spotted a deer in the run down building across from our room!
The Onsen was to die for. so many different types I have to try them all. I love the outdoors one especially.
The only downside is the dinner and breakfast buffet. I think the quality dropped due to the hotel catering for large number of tour groups. There's also no separation between tour groups and non-tour groups so if you happen to sit beside a noisy tour group it's just bad luck for you.
Variety of buffet food is not as wide as I expect a resort hotel to be. At least there's a mix of western food and japanese food. There isn't much to do around this area at night so it's a quiet night in. Thank goodness for one English channel.

Great Onsen resort locatedin the mountains and we could hear the gushing river when we opened the windows. We took a tatami room which is big enough for our family. Beds were rolled out in the evening when we were out for dinner. Only downside was that the mattresses and bed sheets smelt strongly of cigarettes. Don't really like the idea of sleeping on tatami. Snow crab legs was the main attractions in the buffet. Onsen is a must try for all. They even provide ladies' and men skincare products for you to use in the onsen. The rooms do not come with wifi!

Room Tip: If there are rooms with beds, take them. You might not like the tatami. Check the room and if they s...

Great Onsen resort nestled in the mountains. Great view of the gorge and we can hear the gushing river when we opened the windows.
We took a tatami room which is big enough for a family of 4. Beds were rolled out in the evening when we were out for dinner. Only downside was that the mattresses and bed sheets smelt strongly of cigarettes. Guess all were smoking rooms.
Dinner and breakfast were included in the very reasonable room rate, which we booked through japanican website. Which probably explains the many tour groups that packed the resort. Snow crab legs was the main attractions in the buffet.
Onsen is a must try for all. With all the showering / bathing done in the onsen area, there is no need to shower again in the room, which may be why the bathroom was so tiny. They even provide ladies' skincare products (cleanser, toner, moisturizer and special night cream too!) for us to use in the onsen. And onsen is rotated alternate days so you get to try both sides (one for the ladies and one for the guys).

We stayed in this hotel for one night during our Hokkaido trip. Our room was a typical Japanese style room when they would help arrange our beds on the floor. Quite an interesting experience for first-timers! Though I felt the bathroom could have been a bit bigger. The toilet bowl, basin and bathtub were so close to one another. They also serve buffet style dinner and quite a variety of food such as baked scallops, salmon sashimi and crab legs. Ohh and their onsen is also a must-try!
