My girlfriend and I stayed here mid week at the beginning of April, we had an awesome time thanks to the hostess. She picked us up from the train station (which was a short shinkansen ride from Tokyo) and dropped us off/ picked us up at the Gala ski resort for both days that we were there. On the car journeys she was always chatting away and giving us history of the area and telling us good places to go and visit, like the local onsens.
She also hooked us up with a local ski rental place so we ended up saving a bomb on Snowboard and equipment hire rather than hiring it from the Gala resort. (Gala itself was fairly limited on runs this time of year but Kagura and Naeba both looked good, unfortunately we only had 2 days to explore.)
The room we stayed in was nice too, it had under floor heating which is bloody lovely and a nice view of the mountains. We also had a little bathroom next to our room which was great to jump in after a days snowboarding.
Yasuko cooked us a feast for dinner and breakfast, usually a mixture of western food and japanese food which was really tasty! There was all sorts; omelettes, tempura, salads, sumo wrestler hot pots (i forget the name), it was lush and you have nice views of all the mountains!
If you're considering skiing/snowboarding in the Yuzawa region you should definitely look this place up, you're in easy reach of loads of resorts that Yasuko will drop you off at and she's an excellent hostess. She also happens to have the coolest side kick, Lak the little dog!
