We didn't stay here, just stopped for food.

The staff were welcoming and friendly.
There was a good selection of food to pick from and when it arrived it was home cooked and plentiful. The surroundings were quiet and comfortable, really enjoyed the meal and will return if in the area again.

Having been emailed by TripAdvisor to expand my comments relating to a visit in early August to this hotel, I am now doing so. This hotel is only one of a few in the area which is worthy of a visit, so it came as a nice surprise to find the prices had dropped from the dizzy heights of 6 to 12 months earlier, but I think this came at the expense of overall cleanliness. Our table was so sticky, that you had to lever cutlery off the table, drinks just stuck there and heavens forbid if clothing came into contact, it was like Velcro. Also was not happy they did not take cards, 15 mile trip to the 'hole in the wall'. This is a good hotel that could be greater, but I fear may not be.

Room Tip: Living local(ish) use only for food, if staying check they are taking cards.

This Hotel is suitable for life in the slow lane,-no hustle or fuss.Very well staffed.excellent rooms,
and the food is of a good variety.Large fire in one lounge, gives it a homely feel.plus TV.
As a boy I fished for salmon in the river Glaslyn alongside the hotel(35lb best catch),so for any
aspiring fishermen, this is an ideal spot to stay. One can drive to the coast in 20mins,or up to
Blaenau Ffestiniog,(20mins again)and beyond into Snowdonia,if you wish to do some trecking.
I would stay there again.Good choice of ales.

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet.Sleeping is no problem.

Booked a table at The Grapes Hotel and arrived in plenty of time, shown to our table. The table felt sticky (the side plate and knife were stuck to the surface) and I thought needed a wipe with a sterile cloth. While looking through the menu a waiter cleaned the table next to us, all he did was used a cloth that looked dirty wipe around the place mats, he didn't even replace the spare cutlery, just rearranged them.
The waitress came to take our order and we complained to her, her reply that it was the vanish!! And offered to move us to another table – this we declined because we had seen the way the waiter had cleaned the table. Other people in the restaurant said their tables felt sticky and dirty.
The food arrived which and was of a low standard (very poor in fact). We then waited 25 minutes to order a deserts, nobody came to take our order so we decided to leave. The bill was a till receipt which I had to asked to be shown, then taken to an office to pay by credit card, The card and machine were taken from my sight which I was not very happy about.
I will never use this restaurant again

Though locals living in Blaenau we had only had a drink at the Grapes - until today when we decided to have a meal there. Have to say the food was really good, we both enjoyed immensely. I had the cajun chicken - very spicy and tasty, and my husband had the piri piri salmon which he said was also spicy and tasty. Both of us had raspberry ripple cheesecake to follow and that was simply delicious - obviously home cooked rather than a frozen offering that some restaurants present you with. Excellent value for very tasty food.

We stayed here for 3 nights and chose this one because of the central place it is placed. We came to Wales because we wanted to play golf on some nearby courses (Nefyn District & Golf Club (30 min), Porthmadog Golf Club (15 min) and Royal St. Davids (15 min).
The place has a bar and restaurant (kitchen closes at 20:30) which are not bad at all to go for a bite to eat and drink. Also locals come here to eat and drink, which must mean something.
The room we stayed in (nr 2) was nice and has just what you need. Good (firm) beds and a good bathroom with shower. Although the room was to that big, the bathroom is. And you come here for the environment, not to stay all day on your room.

We stayed one night in this Inn during a trip to Snowdonia. A young pleasant staff team. Room no 3 was small but comfortable other than the heating which did not come on. The bar serves average pub meals and was also a bit chilly. The back of the inn is covered in scaffolding but there was no noise, possibly as it was a Saturday. We had the full Welsh breakfast which was good. Overall, reasonable value though if staying there again I will take a thick jumper!
