“friendly pub in a beautiful village setting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 July 2009

All staff and locals were very friendly. Service was a bit chaotic in that they had lost our reservation details, there did not seem to be enough bar and waiting staff on duty and we were overcahrged by £9 for a bottle of wine. That said the room had recently been refurbished and was well equipped except there were no towel rails in the bathroom nor electric shaver socket.
The food was good: we both had the black beef steak and it was excellent. There was a good cooked breakfast.
I would recommend this small hotel but I thought it was a bit expensive for what it was.

this hotel has been recently refurbished to a good standard and is probalby i n this regard one of the better small hotels locally, It is not cheap and the staff seemed to me to be a bit uninterested.

The bar has some great real ales and the food is of good quality.

I did have an arguement with the owner manager about a steak that he claimed was a sirloin but I am sure was a ribeyeand therefore inferior. He would not budge and thereforeI will give the place a miss in the future

Fantastic place to stay bedrooms very tastefully furnished and spotless. Restaurant very good with fresh produce served all day.Staff very welcoming and courteous. Lots to do in surrounding area very picturesque.A fantastic place to stay if you want some peace and quiet in a very homely atmosphere.Well worth a stay and very reasonably priced.

  • Liked — great value for money .Beautiful individually decorated bedrooms and good food
  • Disliked — no lifts so not suitable for disabled or infirm

Went for a weekend after hearing about the Grapes from some friends who were raving about it. The location is stunning, a little village in the Snowdonia National Park called Maentwrog. The hotel rooms are quite basic but full of character with the original stone walls. Our room had a large bathroom, very clean with everthing working albeit the bath took ages to run!! The best bit about our stay there was the amazing food and if you appreciate real ales there were at least 6 different ones to choose from. All the staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming. We will definitely go back there for another weekend.

just returned from a weekend at the grapes.
olde worlde type inn/hotel in the middle of snowdonia.
Rooms are clean and comfortable.
breakfasts lovely and if you want a bar meal they do a good selection (try the pork ribs)
Warning the building is supposed to be haunted but the only thing we heard creaking was someones headboard at 2.30 am.
If you want a pub that sells real ale and good food then you cant go wrong, give it a bash.
