It's an amazing place to visit. The heritage and purpose of the structure is well preserved using original material.

I visited Tranquebar in April 2014. As of now, except for Fort, Churches and the Collector's Residence theres nothing much to see there- the whole former dutch enclave can be covered in 3-4 hours.

Tranquebar should be better described as a 'picnic spot' rather than as a place where one could stay for a holiday. There are no shops selling curios or handicrafts, not even a small eatery where you can buy yourself a glass of cold coffee. Except for a few local visitors, the area largely appears to be desolate.

'Bungalow on the Beach', a hotel run by Neemrana Resorts also bore a deserted look. When I went there the guards politely said "No - No" indicating there was nothing there. I figured it was a seasonal hotel- just functioning during the tourist season.

My personal suggestion, is to stay in Pondicherry, hire a cab to Tranquebar and return the same day.

.
The fort looks like similar buildings in Denmark .
Therefore, the Danish Fort is an exciting experience.

It's great to see Danish documents and coins from the time when the Danes were in Tranquebar.

Very basic inside but some explanatory sheets re Denmark's impact on the area (not a country one thinks of as a colonial power). OK as one was there but not worth a major diversion

Nice walk. May be a canteen where one gets bottled water and refreshment somewhere would have made it more relishing
