“Stunning view. Great food. Love it”
Reviewed 5 August 2014 via mobile

We spent a night on this loving pension on beautiful Hokkaido summer. The host is very welcome and he is a great cook. We did enjoy our dinner & breakfast so much. The view from the pension is also great. Stunning rice field with landscape is priceless to us. The room is quite good too. Comfy bed. We booked deluxe B room and a standard room. The deluxe B room is at another side of the building which the view is not spectacular but it's quite ok.

The location is not that hard to find. It is on the road that is toward Hinode dam and the way that you can access blue pond from Kamifurano. (Just follow your GPS. It will be just fine)

If you would like to relax and travel around Furano and Biei, this is the place. Highly recommend.

Tips: Try to book Deluxe A room. The view is absolutely stunning.

We spent a few days over Christmas at this small pension in rural Hokkaido with our four year-old daughter. Furano is filled with these family-run inns, focussing on good food and cosy accommodations, but I'm pretty sure that we chose the best one. One of the highlights for me was, as the name suggests, the landscape. The view from our room and the dining room were exquisite - fields of dazzling white snow leading to an uninterrupted panorama of the ice-capped Tokachi mountain range.

Breakfasts were simple, yet plentiful, but the dinners were the true epicurean delight - juicy, fall-off the bone 'Dutch oven' chicken, succulent salmon fillets and assorted table-grilled meats and vegetables. All dinners were accompanied by fresh, crunchy salads, homemade bread and exquisite berry puddings. On Christmas eve the proprietor, Yoshitaka san, donning a santa claus outfit, served us up a decadent chocolate cream Christmas cake. After our sumptious dinner I felt a bit like Monty Python's 'The Meaning of Life's' Monsier Creosote eating his "wafer-thin mint" shortly before exploding. If you really want to make the most of the dinners here I suggest you skip lunch altogether.

The bathing facilities offer sit-down showering with more breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, and the option of a lavender-infused rock bath, big enough for the family. Although the beds were comfortable, anybody used to a spacious queen or king-sized bed may find them a little cramped. This, however, was the only negative of our stay.

The surrounding area is full of activities and panoramic vistas, punctuated by striking, spindly ice-trees. When not nursing hot coffees in the dining area, or playing with the Sato family's toddler son, Junsei, we were out snowshoeing, dog-sledding and visiting the ice village at the local ski resort. Unfortunately our hot-air balloon flight on our last morning was cancelled due to inclement weather. Yoshitaka san can help you with booking any tours in the area.

We visited the pension in winter, but I think it would be equally beautiful, if not more so, during the summer. If you book for the warmer months I suggest you ask for a room with a balcony. Ours did not have one, but was not necessary for our snowy season stay. There are not many places I would visit again as I generally like trying out new hotels, but we'll definitely be visiting the Pension Landscape Furano again. Perhaps to see the rolling greens and purples of the lavender season.
