We really enjoyed our stay at the Meteor Pension - the family who run it are very friendly and keen to help, and any language difficulties were easily overcome. The location is great, in Echoland - lots of restaurants nearby, easy access to onsens, and good transport options for getting to most of the resorts. The continental breakfast was good value (the cooked breakfast didn't look that great). Our room wasn't huge but was well heated (apart from the bathroom, which was arctic!) and comfortable. We saw one of the rooms at the next-door Meteor Lodge - the beds are bigger and the room a bit bigger, but there didn't seem a huge difference. Overall, it was a really nice place to stay and seemed like really good value. We'll definitely stay there again if we return to Hakuba.

As a returning guest for many years to Meteor , I have found the accomadation very good for this price range. With this Family run Lodge ,the customer service is excellent, with Tetsu, Madori and staff going the extra yards to meet their guests requirements. Its situated in an excellent part of Ecoland close to the main street , with a nightly run shuttle bus to traditional japanese onsens,
I would highly recommend Meteor for your next ski trip to beautiful Hakuba!

Nice familiar pension in heart of Echoland. Bus stop for all Hakuba slopes is just 3 minutes walk. Restaurants, bar and shops in walking distance.
Rooms clean, big with private bathroom. in the entrance 2 sofas to take rest, see internet or chat.
Owners can take you to the center to supermarket or to any other place if you ask.
Pension also offer free shuttle to Happo One slopes in the morning.
Definately recommended!

This review has to be read in the context of a city folk who lived her entire life in Singapore, a few steps north of the equator.
Sorry Tetsu that it took me a year to write this review. in this time, my sister has returned in summer, and more friends have found their way to Meteor on our recommendation.
During this past year, a lot has been written about Tetsu, wife, son and the superb hospitality. And it is all true.
Now about the lodge, Tetsu spent two years building the lodge with materials imported from Canada, the result is a cosy two sty lodge with a fully equipped kitchen, a long table with a flat screen TV huddling next to a fireplace. Putting together a meal at the kitchen is a real delight with the glass windows and the wonderful view. From the living area, to catch the rising sun cast a colored hue on the majestic alps is in itself a wonderful treat.
We travelled in a group of 13, with ages ranging from 10 to 78. The keen skiers enjoyed the close proximity to the ski slopes, the bus stop was literally at our door step. Next to Meteor are many restaurants and cafes less than 5 minutes walk away. Yet, not once did we lose that peaceful feeling surrounding Meteor.
All in all, we enjoyed every minute of staying at the Lodge. The only regret is that it wasn't long enough.

Room Tip: Rooms on the upper floor has a higher ceiling, and will require longer heating time. However they h...

The Meteor Lodge has it all, genuine helpful staff, excellent location, great local knowledge, awesome value for money and everything you need at hand to enjoy an all season holiday in Japan. The family run business feels homely and personal, you can't help but be positively effected by the enthusiasm and willingness to help make your stay as memorable and perfect as possible. When you stay at Meteor, you aren't just getting a room to sleep in, you really experience service like only the Japanese know how, there aren't any angles or on sells, just a strong sense that this is where you "live" while you are here so whatever you want to experience, see and do can be arranged. Tetsu-san is a wealth of knowledge, a powerhouse of energy, has a good grasp of the english language and will have you smiling within minutes of meeting him. The family and staff are just as personal. The lodge is spotlessly clean and the prices are unbeatable value for money, ensuring you will want to come back time and time again. The skiing and boarding here is the stuff you brag about and no one believes you. If you are into the night life, Echoland, just a block away, goes off like only the Japanese can. Hakuba is a beautiful village at the foot of the mountains that has it all. Like us, you will go there once, stay at the Meteor Lodge and on your arrival back home start planning your next visit back.

Family-run lodge with very reasonably priced, private, clean rooms or log cabins to share with friends if you have a bigger budget..In-room heating and hot water always available. Meteor provide significantly discounted lift passes to some of the main nearby ski areas( Happo/Hakuba 47/ Goryu). Discounted ski/board rental also available from Meteor. A regular free shuttle service is also on offer by Mr Tatsu of Meteor lodge to and from the Happo ski area, tain/bus station or Jusco shopping centre. Other free shuttle buses to different ski areas stop in front of the lodge and run regularly. A (VERY SLOW!) night bus runs from mid december to march for 200 yen all around town. Meteor is conveniently located a couple of blocks away from one of the main bar streets of the area, though we were there very early in the season so not much was happening. Best place was "BARWAVE" for their hot cherry ripe drink. Meteor is also a short walk away from an onsen. Highly recommended! Get a discounted coupon from the Meteor front desk. Many western and local restaurants are located nearby. The best we found were Cherry Pub (on the same street) and Santa's bar and trattoria a few blocks to the right. THere's also a fantastic french bakery just past Santa's which opens at 10:30am.

Overall a really enjoyable place to stay if on a budget. A few kids running around but it's not a problem. Most staff can speak at least a little English. We tried the breakfast one day but it was not worth 1000 yen so I recommend going elsewhere to eat or walk to 7-11 or Jusco and buy your own food. Also internet is free so either bring your laptop or use the lobby computer. We will definately stay at Metero Lodge again in the future!!
