“Extraordinarily good service”
Reviewed 1 April 2014

We selected La Neige Higashikan for our Hakuba holiday because of the reviews on Tripadvisor, and we were not disappointed. We can honestly say that in many years of travel we have never experienced such friendly, helpful and comprehensive service. We had a deluxe room, and it was very comfortable, spacious and quiet, with excellent bathroom facilities. The hotel's setting is very attractive, and although it is about 15-20 minutes walk to Happo Village, this was not a problem for us, and the hotel's staff were always willing to provide lifts in the local area when necessary. We ate at the casual restaurant in the hotel, as we don't particularly care for French cuisine, and found the food very good and reasonably priced. We would certainly like to return, and would have no hesitation in recommending La Neige to all our friends.

My wife and I had a week of skiing at Hakuba and had the pleasure of staying at this hotel. A beautiful well appointed room and exceptional service from all of the staff, who were incredibly obliging and helpful in every way. A special credit to the Manager, Mr Sou Yamaguchi, who ensured that we had the very best experience. We are well travelled and this hotel is one of the best we have stayed in. Highly recommended.

Welcome Mr Hellier,Wow only my parole officer calls me Mr Hellier.
Those were the first words spoken by the staff of La Neige Higashikan on my arrival ,and set the tone for a week of impeccable service, great food and honest concern for my holiday enjoyment.
The setting, think snowbound mansion.
The feel ,think Downton abbey.
The staff ,think ( I don't have staff at home so this must be better)
Mr Hellier thinks, just book next year before everyone else does.
Enjoy

The staff the staff the staff and their service mentality makes this phenomenal. When you arrive, they sets you on sofas in lounge and serve you tea and snacks while checking in, they take care of your skis and boots every night and morning. They drop you and pick up in private vans to/from Sakka lift which is 2 minutes away! They make dinner reservations, they help ship back your luggage via takuben, the rooms are great --- we booked Corner Deluxe worth it because of the huge jacuzzi tub in room that fits 3. Breakfast was good (not spectacular); dinner in restaurant very good. Will go back again!

Room Tip: Corner Deluxe with in room jacuzzi tub

Wonderful stay at La Neige, the staff were so lovely and caring - always smiling and willing to help at all times! Beautiful place :) would highly recommend this place. A little bit dosppointed that they did not have any Japanese cuisine in the resort but not enough to not make me want to stay here again!

We stayed at the Hotel La Neige for the last week of our recent trip to Japan and it was just magical and the perfect way to end our holiday.

The Hotel is located in Wadano, so it is a little bit out of the buzzing centre of Hakuba but only a very short distance away from the Sakka ski lift which gives you access to the entire Happo One ski area. Be sure to look out for the little path back from the ski lift which enables you to ski all the way to the end of the driveway!! Almost ski in ski out! The ski shuttle stops pretty well at the end of the driveway so that much is super convenient, but if you're planning to catch ski shuttles anywhere in Hakuba, be sure to check the timetable. They are not at all regular like at other resorts, and buses to some areas only run once every two hours. Even the night shuttle is a bit complex to work out and we ended up catching taxis if we wanted to go anywhere. But if you get really stuck, the hotel will come and pick you up!

There are plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance, not to mention the amazing food in the restaurant itself. The French (fine dining) Restaurant is a bit pricy, but worth every cent you spend for the amazing food and impeccable service. The Casual dining restaurant is also lovely, and a bit more affordable if you just want something simple.

The hotel has a lovely homely lounge offering complimentary afternoon tea every afternoon and an open fire place to warm up after a day out skiing.

But what sets this place aside from anywhere else however is the amazing service. The staff are always cheerful and happy to help and so many little things give this place an edge. As you walk out ready for skiing in the morning, they have your ski boots ready. They load your skis into the car while you put on your boots (or carry them to the bus stop if you are catching the shuttle to one of the other ski areas!), and drive you to the Sakka lift if that's where you want to go. When you return at the end of the day, they dash out to carry your skis up the steps for you. They really do spoil you!! On the very last day as our taxi pulled out of the hotel, all three of the front desk/ski staff personally shook our hand to say goodbye, then assembled out there front and waved until the taxi was out of sight. These little attention to detail things go a long way to make you feel special.

The only downside is that the rooms (well at least the room we stayed in) are not double glazed so in -12 they don't stay particularly warm, but there is sufficient heating in the room so you are not cold either, its just not particularly 'cosy'.

All in all I would recommend this place to anyone, and for the price we paid, it has got to be some of the best value for money I have ever seen.
