The website advertises a delicious breakfast with homemade bread, healthy continental selections and a hot option every day. In reality, this consisted of pieces of bread cut so small you had to put your fingers into the toaster to retrieve. Healthy continental selections were the usual spread of vegemite and jam and the supposed "hot option" was either a boiled egg, sausage or slice of french toast that had been sitting out since 7am (so get there early).
The ski in ski out option is hugely exaggerated. This is only if you fancy skiing down the road and that's only if it has been snowing and you manage to beat the road plows. Getting back is an option for only those who can ski through the trees at the back of the resort. In reality, there is a 15 minute uphill walk from the nearest chairlift.
The rooms themselves were clean and tidy but was frustrated that there was only one powerpoint in the whole room, so it was a perpetual juggle between the heater, phone chargers, hairdryer etc. Small details count - empty the bins everyday like you promise and maybe some english instructions for the heater would be nice.
I did not find the staff particularly friendly or helpful apart from the occasional lift at dinner. They all seemed too busy eating or hanging out in the bar. There was no advice provided on which buses to catch locally to/from resorts or even mention that sometimes that involved two buses.
Having worked a season at a lodge in Japan ourselves, perhaps our expectations were too high. I felt like we had a much better experience in other more traditional Japanese lodgings, even with the language barrier. This was definitely an average place to stay and I wouldn't bother returning with the huge range of alternative options available.
