“Home away from Home”
Reviewed 5 February 2014

We recently stayed at Double Black for a week in January. The hotel is in such a great location very near a shuttle stop at Tokyu Hotel however this is not really necessary as the staff are more than happy to drive you to wherever you need to go. The room was very comfortable and the bed the best bed we slept in whilst in Japan. The food was great and the breakfast fresh and tasty every day. Eggs and Coffee made to order every morning, delicious! Happy hour between 5-6 was a much needed experience after a day on the slopes and was a great chance to interact with other people at the hotel. However the best thing about this hotel was the staff. Absolutely nothing was a problem, they were so helpful and attended to our every need. Everyone was incredibly friendly and we cant thank you more for our stay at Double Black. It felt like a home away from home! Thanks to Jules, Trent, Brad, Mitch, Alec, Eno and Carrie (sorry I think that spelt wrong) you guys were the best!

My wife and 2 children aged (3 and 7) stayed at Double Black in January 2014. Overall the accomodation was excellent, breakfast was very hearty (you couldn't want more) and the staff very friendly. Real highlights were the location, breakfast, cleaniness and the fact that the staff cannot do enough for you with regards to ski pick up and drop offs and are very helpful with children. The common area in the hotel very very welcoming and nice to relax. Finally we were lucky enough to meet Jason who manages Double Black and he always ensured everything was of a high standard and couldn't do enough to make sure our stay was memorable. Highly recommended if you are skiing in Hakuba.

Amazing property in a beautiful part of Hakuba at the base of the Wadano forest. Within walking distance of the Kokusai lift (but why walk, when the hotel shuttles run several trips in the morning and the afternoon to the lifts of your choice!). All in all, a beautiful property with well-appointed rooms, a great restaurant and comfortable bar, a relaxing onsen, but the stand-out point of this property is the amazingly helpful and genuinely kind staff ... nothing is too much trouble for them and Trent, Jules and Kaori are the consummate hosts. The New Year's Eve menu was sublime and the ice-bar out of the verandah was very special. We'll definitely be back ... I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else in Hakuba now. Raeleen

A beautiful place to stay, so close to a variety of ski resorts. Staff were efficient and helpful with organizing free shuttle bus travel to resorts and recommending and booking restaurants in the evening along with transport if not within walking distance. The staff were helpful, friendly and accommodating. The drying room was efficient with lovely warm ski boots every morning! It was nice that you could book the Onsen for private use and the Happy hour was always something to look forward to in the bar. Being a small boutique hotel it was easy to get to know other guests.

Fantastic lodge. Room was clean and so comfortable with large fluffy doona and food was delicious. But what make the place so awesome was the staff. Trent, Jules, Mitch and Iino were so lovely and went out of the way to help organising shuttles, taxis and dinner reservations. They ensured this last stop on our honeymoon left us with nothing but amazing memories. Will be back for sure.

We have just returned from a wonderful family holiday, staying in Double Black Hotel. This was our second time and the management have really transformed the hotel since taking over this time last year. From the start we were made so welcome and the standard of service was excellent. The facilities were wonderful and clean, with rooms being made up daily. Pablo's cooking was sensational, and he excelled in a New Year's Eve dinner for our family and local friends. Jules and Trent run an efficient business with a great personal touch. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The transport provided around the village is very efficient and Mitch ensures you are at your destination right on time! Thank you to Jason for managing our booking and including an extra party at late notice. Our family will be back again. Thank you to all you helped make this a memorable start to the year!

Just getting back to Canberra after what I can only describe as one of the most amazing holiday experiences of my life, I'm finding it hard to adjust to normal life outside of the Double black hotel. Darren, Pablo and Clarissa made our trip.. Hands down. On arrival, Darren met us with open arms and showed us to our rooms, it was warm and cosy with unbelievably comfortable beds :) nothing was ever too much to ask of him, from checking the weather each morning to driving us up each mountain pending on best conditions. He knew all the best restaurants in town and made reservations for us everywhere! He even took care of getting our luggage to the airport by driving it himself! He went above and beyond to make sure we were enjoying our stay immensely! Every morning we were happy to see Pablo the talented Argentinian chef cooking us anything we liked from pancakes to scrambled eggs! He was also more than happy to help with tips for getting around and making the best hot chocolates of an evening while we curled up and watched foxtel in the warm and cosy lounge-room :) Clarissa was one of the most caring and compassionate girls I have ever had the pleasure meeting!! She was there at our every beck and whim! Always happy to offer advice and willing to do anything for us! Location wise, double black is nestled away from the hustle and bustle but only a 5 minute walk from town. It was just perfect. I couldn't recommend it highly enough :-) we will DEFINITELY be staying at double black hotel next year! Still mind blown at the amazing service. :) Thanks guys for everything! J&D
