Being greeted by Julian, the manager, on arrival really set the tone for our stay. The staff, a mixture of Australian and Japanese, were really friendly and helpful.
We had a downstairs room with ensuite with heater, TV and DVD player and use of the DVD library. I believe the rooms upstairs are bigger. Wifi is free and quick and available throughout the hotel unlike some places we've stayed. It really is only a couple of minutes walk to the lift and if there was enough snow you could ski back. The central sports ski hire place is just next door and they deliver and pick up the gear which was great for the families.
It is about a 10 minute walk to the pubs and hotels with public onsens but there were a few restaurants and a convenience store close by so we didn't stray far. You can walk or take the free buses to get around.
Breakfast is cereal, fruit ,yoghurt eggs and bacon toast tea and coffee OJ all the usual stuff.
We leave tomorrow and are being dropped off at the bus station. Would definitely stay there again,

We stayed here in 2nd week of January and would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel. We stayed in the family quad room which was excellent - large comfortable king bed and double bunks. It had good storage, able to fully unpack and was spacious. TV - but no access to English speaking channels or foxtel which was a shame. There were however lots of free DVD's to borrow.
Restaurent good - really enjoyed the pumpkin soup!
Breakfast excellent.
Also provides access to laundry with free washing, powder and dryers.
Great position close to Sakka quad but no children's ski school there.
The staff were lovely, however seemed new, and hence unable to advise us on restaurants, best places to ski etc.
Ski hire right next do.
Overall we would rate the hotel as excellent.

Thank you very much for your very positive review.

Mindful of our guests feedback, we are pleased to advise that commencing February 14th we will have available two English language TV channels to all rooms. A children's channel and the BBC news channel.

Further, we now have a PC for guest use available in reception.

Stayed for 4 nights in a shared room.
Lovely simple room, the DVD library is a great touch for short days and resting after the slopes. Beds were large enough and firm, storage space could be a little limited but there's a large drying room in the basement for ski equipment so most bulky stuff can be placed elsewhere.

Hire shop and bus stop are less than a stone throw away. The lift for Happo one and the beginners slopes are 2 minutes down the hill, couldn't be better located. Several places to eat within walking distance and a good bus service to the other ski areas during the day into the more lively areas if that's your poison at night.

The staff were a mix of British, Australian and Japanese and really made our visit most enjoyable. Always friendly and willing to assist with anything, they opened the bar up when our friend arrived late, helped with transport arrangements back to Tokyo and made the stay more special.

Would gladly return, only wish we could have stayed longer.

This was our first family trip overseas and we weren't sure what to expect. We were very pleased with our choice of snow field and Hotel. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left we were greeted by friendly smiling (english speaking) staff who always made us feel at home and helped us with our questions. We stayed as 2 adults and 2 teenage kids in a family room which was spacious and worked out very well. Breakfast was nice and the staff put on earlier times when it was necessary for us to get to our days outings on time. The Sakka beginner slopes were a very short walk and those slopes were the perfect ones for us Beginners- snow clearly tons better than what we remember from Australian Winters!
Dinner at Luna was great (we had several) and always started at the bar for a cold beer or a Chu-Hi. There is a very functional drying room and a rec room downstairs. Numerous DVDs were available for the kids to bring back to the room and watch for free. The kids particularly liked uploading things with the free WiFi.
Down town Happo was a short shuttle bus or taxi ride- but we often walked if we wanted to eat out and other eating options are very close (uphill on way home to work off dessert).
Our day at the Snow Monkeys was a great time and a good rest for weary muscles.
We used Chuo taxis for our transfers to Nagano- this worked well.
So all in all- this was the perfect place for us and we wouldn't have changed anything- Highly Recommended - particularly for families and beginner skiers.

Room Tip: I believe there is only 1 family room- this was great for us!

We stayed here as a family 3 adults & 1 infant (1.5yrs old).
We had the family suite with own bathroom which Is very spacy.
2 seperate rooms.
Great heating in both rooms, small bathroom but is common throughout japan.
The advertised king bed was 2 singles put together but we didn't mind.
The only negative experiences we had at the luna was communication about transport.
On 3 occasions we organised a lift with a staff member from luna and they forgot or went to a wrong location.
Luckily our 4th lift was remembered as we were being dropped off at the happo bus station.
We understand these were all teething problems as they had just opened for the season.

Breakfast is included with all bookings.
Coffee is very average (instant coffee)
And bacon and eggs which you must order is very rationed.
But everything else is really good.
Dinners at Luna's restaurant are very pricey but of average quality.
Would recommend eating elsewhere.

Overall we loved our stay at luna and would definitely stay again.

Thanks to all the lovely staff and Julian for all the good chats.

My husband and I have just returned from our first ski holiday in Hakuba Japan. Whilst there we stayed at the Hakuba Luna Hotel which I could not recommend more highly. The staff went above and beyond to help us when we discovered all our ski dates were wrong and our train tickets would not be valid for travel the day we left. To Miles we say thankyou for reorganising all our bookings for us and to Maruyama thankyou for driving us to the train station and helping us rebook our train tickets and also to both for all your help in booking and recommending restaurants. To Tristan, Matt & Ashley thanks for the great many Happy Hour ( between 4 & 5 everyday ) we spent in the bar and also your great service in the restaurant. Its really nice when the staff are friendly and will take the time to have a chat with you.To Terrence the chef thankyou for the all the yummy food. Was great to start our day off with a great breakfast and we really enjoyed all the food in the restaurant (especially the dessert YUM!!! ) and to all behind the scenes thankyou for making our trip so enjoyable. We will definately be back. To all those looking for a great comfortable & friendly place to stay I would recommend the Luna as the rooms were well heated with really really comfortable beds. The drying room was large with plenty of room for all your gear. They also have a bus stop right out front for the shuttle busses at night that will take you to other restaurants plus you can also walk to restaurants as there are many only a short distance away. Also very handy having a free laundry room with dryers as most places charge the earth for washing and drying. The hotel is also only 100 mtrs from the Sakka lifts so is so easy to start your day off skiing and great when you finish as you only have a very short walk on tired legs after skiing all day. You are also able to catch a shutle bus to and from other locations if you want to try other slopes. ( pickup is right next to the lifts in the carpark ). All in all I couldn't recommend this place more highly as it was reasonbly priced, clean, freindly and above all great service from all at the hotel staff !!!! . And lastly to Kerry (owner) was lovely to meet you and I enjoyed our chats and thanks for all your advice and recommendations on things to do and places to go we had such a wonderful time and we will definately be back for another fun filled visit. To anyone planning a stay at the Lunar check out their site as there is a heap of info on rooms and also travel tips on how to get there (plus pictures) . Makes it much easier as this is info from current time tables for busses, trains etc.

Paying a bargain price for a 3.5 star hotel I honestly expected the pictures to overstate the quality, and the "5 minute walk to the lifts" to be maybe 10, at a brisk pace. I expected it to be clean, functional, and in a word average.

What I DIDN'T expect was super friendly staff, a great breakfast and a 3 minute shuffle to the base of one of the best snow fields, Happo-One.

I stayed in one of the triple share rooms with some friends and was very impressed. Little things like cooking eggs differently every morning really added to the experience and it's location in the Wadano area is walking distance to some good restaurants and bars, and has more of a village feel that I imagine staying around Echoland would. Peneke bar is very close and a great place to end a night, and the Windy Kobeya restaurant is right next door. For people looking for something a bit more home like, "The Pub" is about 10 minutes walk away. Cheap drinks, pizza, pool and Fussball.

On the first day we went to Cortina ski fields, and ended up getting back at 1930 after some difficulty with the buses - the reception staff said to give them a call from the Hakuba information centre next time and they'd be happy to come and pick us up - little things like this really added to the experience.

The walk to the lifts is if anything understated, and while I thought the main area was Hakuba 47, Happo-One is actually larger and has more varied terrain.

Rooms were good - Tatami mats and individual heating, we were on the ground floor which meant a handy fridge to store our beers just outside the window. A small criticism may have been that the beds weren't amazing, but nothing worse than expected for a 3.5 star.

Overall I was very impressed - a combination of great value and better than expected service means I will be back!
