Our family of two adults and two teenage boys recently stayed at the hotel in January. Three of us were beginner skiiers so the location suited us superbly. Luna is about a 3 minute walk from the Sakka Beginners Chairlift, the Happo Cafeteria and ticket office. Central Ski Sports is right next door and there's a convenience store less than 5 minutes walk away. Some great restaurants are also a short walk, which we decided to eat at rather than jump on the night bus. Julian the hotel manager also met us at the Happo Bus Terminal which was brilliant.
Hotel Luna has a variety of different types of accommodation. We had the quad share upstairs with a private bathroom. This consisted of a queen bed and bunk beds. Whilst the room was pretty tight for the four of us, for the 5 nights we stayed it was perfectly suitable. Any longer I think each of us would have been craving a bit more space but it was nice for the time we were there. The bathroom is tiny but the hot water pressure in the shower was great at the end of a long day on the slopes. There's wifi throughout the hotel, which was a great bonus and no complaints about the speed from two teenage boys. We made good use of the extensive DVD library in the hotel to watch movies in our room each night as well.
Having stayed in a number of hotels in Japan we were surprised that the breakfast buffet is all western, maybe to cater for the 99% of aussies staying at the hotel. It was really ample to sustain you for a morning on the slopes with cereals, croissants, toast, eggs and bacon to choose from. We didn't eat in the restaurant for dinner, deciding to try some of the Japanese style in the area.
We were really impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff at the hotel. Mika got our award for happiest hotel staff member in the whole of Japan. She's gorgeous. Julian, Zac and Liam went out of their way to give directions, advice and offer assistance. It was nice to find a hotel where you don't have to pay to do your own laundry but be warned its an exercise in strategic planning to score a clothes drier. Best time is when everyone is on the slopes in the morning. The drying room for ski gear is fantastic as well as the entertainment room downstairs.
Would highly recommend the hotel to any travellers looking for a family friendly hotel in a perfect location on the slopes.
