“We Will Be Back! Super friendly hosts... relaxing, clean & comfy ski lodge”
Reviewed 17 January 2014

From the moment we arrived we felt at home as we were warmly greeted by our hosts, Shayne and Maryanne by the lovely fire in the front room. With a welcome drink in hand nothing was too much trouble as we received help organising ski lessons and our weekend ahead.

As we chose to catch the Shinkansen from Tokyo, Maryanne and Shayne were most accommodating in getting us around - we also organised our transfers through them. Nothing was too much trouble, with everything done with genuine honest hospitality. They were just too happy to help out to make our stay wonderful.

The rooms and bar restaurant were all lovely and clean with the bar a great relaxing. Our rooms were clean comfortable with Japanese bathroom. Great Breakfast each morning with welcoming staff! A great way to start your day skiing with a piping hot cup of tea!

Maryanne was our saviour and went beyond the call of duty going out of her way to rescue our forgotten bag from the Nagano station then sending it back to us in Tokyo!

At the end of the day Allure is not a fancy 5 star accommodation, but it is a traditional ski lodge offering a welcoming and friendly, comfortable haven for everyone with hosts who genuinely care. That's what we loved about it. We look forward to coming back in March! Thank you Maryanne and Shayne!

Had a fab 2 week stay at allure hotel. Easy to get to ski fields - 10 minute by bus and very near lovely hot springs and Japanese restaurants. The owners will help you with anything and give you lifts too!! They are lovely!

Maryanne and Shane took great care of us when we stayed in Allure, from driving us to their favorite dining places to taking us sightseeing in the beautiful Hakuba mountains. A cooked breakfast was included every day and Shane did a great job keeping it interesting by serving us something different each time.

Ask them anything and they'll be happy to give you their help and opinion. They'll also arrange skiing lessons / ski rental etc etc if you need it.

A great place to stay.

Stayed in December with my Daughter, felt like part of the family by the end of the stay. Shayne and Maryanne were not afraid to tell us anything we needed to know, weather forecasts so we could plan, where supermarkets were, which resort to ski. Bar was fun place to share info and the fire in the front room and vending machine beers got a workout!
My Daughter Airlie rates Shaynes eggs as "best ever", sorry Maryanne! Have stayed before in previous year and Maryanne is like an Aunty to the kids on day 2, makes it a great family place.
Rooms are good, great western option if you want lodge service and people to help your stay in Hakuba be a great one! We have stayed twice, best simple description is we had Fun!

Lachy & Airlie.

Stayed with my duaghter for seven days in April for some quality time and ski tutoring. Shayne is an excellent coach and a dab hand in the kitchen. Maryanne a perfect hostess. Very family oriented with a a large range of local places to eat. Plenty of different runs to ski on in what is a beautiful range of hills. Highly recommended and will return

We spent 2 weeks at Allure over Easter, and plan to return next winter. It is an awesome place to stay. Just enough Japanese and just enough Western to be great for foreigners. It is good honest ski accommodation - a place crash, good bar, spacious rooms, decent bathrooms (compact Japanese style) and close to everything without being too close.

Allure is set in the middle of a picturesque forest, about 50 meters from the Nagano Olympics welcome sign - with views of the valley from many rooms and the bar. There are good common areas to chat with the other guests and your hosts and their young family.

You have the option of eating in or dining out at the many nearby restaurants. You are a 10 minute walk from Happo's restaurants, Izakaia's, Onsens and shops (or about a $10 taxi ride if it's too cold). The food at Allure is western style (good for for a break from Japanese food), and as good as you would get at any great restaurant at home.

You are also about 10 minutes walk from the lifts at Happo One. In peak season there is a bus service which travels the whole valley's towns and resorts, and it is about 15 minutes to Happo 47/Goryu (linked), Iwatake and about 20 minutes from Cortina.

People in the valley know who Maryanne and Shayne are and speak highly of them - Taxi drivers know where Allure is, ski resorts know that Shayne runs ski training programs. This is indicative of a business that has come into the area and is giving 110%. This is reflected by what they provide their customers. Sure, it's not 5 star accommodation - but 5 star accommodation is attained by ticking checkboxes for things like "doilies under bedside lamps" and "mints on beds" - not how hard someone works to make your experience in Japan a fun experience.

I stayed here for two nights in January and had an excellent time. The hosts are incredibly friendly and helpful, and made the stay very pleasant. I wish we could have stayed longer!
