“Great staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 March 2012 via mobile

Recently stayed at mominoki and was awesome to have found this hotel. The most outstanding thing was the staff with both Japanese and Australian Staff who were all great. The lounge and fireplace in the lobby were a great meeting point after a day skiing. And to enjoy a lovely beer from Gayle and the crew. Then what better than to relax in the onsen to take the days stresses away.
They could do themselves a big favor and improve there food but the hospitality and friendliness of this hotel is a stand out!!

We were upgraded from a dorm style location to the Mominoki as we were only there for a short time and a dorm did not suit. the staff were very helpful, the onsen was great, the rooms very comfortable, although a little warm.
They helped us with loads of things to make our stay more enjoyable.
The Pub is close by and the buses all go from almost the front door.
Found some great restuarants close by as well.
We will be back. We could not go anywhere else now!

We stayed at the Mominoki for 7 nights and felt more at home by the day. We traveled as 2 couples staying in Standard Twin rooms with an excellent daily Western/Japanese breakfast buffet included. Rooms were warm, clean, in good condition and just big enough for luggage with a bit of thought. The Japanese and Australian reception staff were all lovely and much appreciated. After our first shy onsen we looked forward to this soothing hot bath after a day skiing and enjoyed the opportunity to have a relaxing chat with other guests before venturing out for dinner. Hakuba was good to us. The snow kept falling, no wind, great food, excellent skiing, at-the door resort shuttles while staying at an very cute retro ski chalet hotel. Our only complaint was a barking dog that woke us too early every morning. We think it was let out for it's morning toilet stop and left outside to bark. We plan on returning next winter, hoping the dog issue is a one off. The Mominoki was a good find!

Room Tip: The 22m2 Standard Twin room is not small by Japanese standards but still tight for easy access to lu...

We booked Mominoki for our last night stay in Hakuba hoping for a little luxury after a 4 night stay at a 2 star B & B and we deeply regret it.

Upon arrival we were greeted by a rather rude and informal receptionist who spoke to us in a way that you would expect if you were at a local pub. She was very rude and blunt to another colleague who, as she took us to our room was nothing but apologetic the whole time! This was clearly due to how she was being treated and it was very sad to see.

Our room was very disappointing considering that it was a 4 star hotel. The room was stuffy, dusty and the furniture and decor was old and bland.

Dinner at the buffet that night was also disappointing. Everything we ate was lukewarm and not up to the standard that one would expect at a 4 star hotel. We hoped that breakfast would be better but unfortunately it wasn't.

The only upside to our stay was that it was very close to the ski fields Happo One which made it ideal.

The onsen was good, but I did find a clump of hair amongst the rocks which was unpleasant. Upon departure I stayed at the hotel for a couple of hours and tried the hot chocolate served at the lobby. It was probably the best thing I've had to consume since we arrived at the hotel. Probably should have just had that for dinner and breakfast!

Overall I wouldn't recommend this hotel. Don't rely on the stars to decide whether this hotel would suit you and your needs. The price doesn't coincide with what you get in return.

The hotel is nostalgic but nice. Wi-Fi is available in room (unexpectedly is free). As the location is remote thus environment is very peaceful. We had buffet dinner and breakfast. Foods are various and above average. Beer is cheap but soft drinks are not worth.

This was the first overseas experience skiing with the kids and Japan was chosen because it was a little closer to Aus and in the same time zone. Hotel choice was scientific and rigorous (it was the only one that met our timing and room requirements).
The hotel was GREAT! Very clean, very comfortable, room size was way better than expected for Japan and comfortably housed 5 in two rooms. Only comment is that walls are a little thin if your neighbours are 'loud'.
Important skier info... 100m walk to nearest lift, plenty of ski gear accom, Onsen on site. Every skier should finish the day in the tub... nothing better to get all the wrinkles out prior to dinner. The hotel has plenty of places to eat just outside the door, a restaurant on site and beer vending machines (sensational idea).
Great value, breakfast included (my girls will go back just to perfect their waffles). The staff were fabulous and we promise to improve our Japanese b4 next year.
LUV YA WORK!!! :)
