“Fantastic Scenery”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

It was great to stay in this hotel since they provide good service and they have many types of facilities too. Fantastic buffet dinner & breakfast in the large, roomy Palaccio restaurant with a nice view of the lake.

I stayed this hotel with a group tour from Thailand. the hotel is very big. i think it is too big. the room is quite old design. however, the room is clean and bigger than other city hotels in Japan.

I have not used onsen as i was busy with my son. however, it seem to be a good facility in this hotel.

The buffet is quite good. there are a variety of food. I wore Yukata dress which was provided by the hotel in my room , to have dinner in the hotel. it felt good to weat it.

at 8 pm there was a firework on Lake toya. it is very stunning and beautiful.

A large resort hotel. Nice public swimming pool with waterslide and various wading pools. Great for kids. Great hot onsen baths. WIFI available only in the lobby, an especially long walk if you had a room such as 1x66. They serve a really nice buffet breakfast in the large, roomy Palaccio restaurant with a nice view of the lake.

This is a 5 star hotel and resort. The best features in this resort are: 1. Large hot spring (Onsen) pools and bath. It has several round pools of hot water; one pool is very cold water (20deg or less). 2. If you like hot spring this is the place. The hotel is also on the Lake Toya with fantastic view of the lake and volcano mountain. 3. There are several hot spring pools for foot socking and relaxing. 4. There is a nice path walk on the lake. 5. The resort is equipped with many facilities for children including swimming pools, water slides, and other entertainments. Check in and check out are fast and efficient. The staff are very very polite and respect guests and have the smile (it is a common Japanese politeness that I felt everywhere in Japan). The rooms are 5 star level rooms which was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast and dinner are both a buffet style with large variety five-star standard. There are many activities for the children in the swimming pool and the lobby. It is a family and honeymoon hotel. I recommend this hotel and sure I will be back when visited Japan again.

I was wowed by photos online and was not disappointed when I arrived at the huge hotel, which has a great location right on Lake Toya, the main attraction in the small town.

The spacious rooms come with a big window which overlooks the lake, a most pleasant sight.

Hotel feels luxurious with helpful concierge staff on standby and there is a big convenience store at the lobby which stocks a lot of famous Japanese snacks.

Hotel is famous for its onsen (hot springs) and huge water amusement park. That being said, a lot of tourists and locals flock to the hotel everyday, thus it becomes very crowded and noisy all the time, especially more so because the onsen opens till late everyday.

Free WiFi only in the lobby.

Special mention to the free shuttle to Sapporo which takes 2 hours each way, a nice bus journey through the mountains and little towns.

Breakfast and dinner buffet is usually included in the booking. Big spread but overrated, as the food is not the most delicious in my honest opinion.

Would only recommend if you want to take a long walk around Lake Toya, but be sure to check the weather carefully prior to booking. We spent 3 days at this hotel but was met with gloomy weather in winter and the lake was hardly visible.

This is a large and fairly modern resort on the shores of the largest greater lake in Hokkaido. Aside from spectacular views across the lake this resort has absolutely nothing to boast about.

It was crowded, noisy and of poor quality in all aspects.

Where to start? I guess at point of arrival.

Once you arrive and unload you luggage from the car you then need to park. I could not get into the car park as it was blocked by 2 trucks unloading goods. Even if I could have accessed the car park there were no spaces. Luckily I found a couple of hundred metres down the road a public car park and walked back. To find my wife and son still waiting to check in.

The room was OK, just, but so hot you could hardily breath. There was no way to adjust the temperature so all we could do was to open the large window and try to wedge it so a reasonable amount of cool air got in without freezing you in the night -8C outside.

Food; this was the bigest disappointment of all. firstly there was a queue waiting for the doors to open to the restaurant. Well I'm being kind to call it that. It was a over lit unappealing hall with rows of tightly packed tables more akin to a prison dinning hall or national service other ranks mess hall. The food was disgusting. And thats no exaggeration, cold, lacking taste and any appeal. And we were amongst the first 50 or so people in after the doors opened. So no excuse for cold food.

Breakfast, again a total disaster. Please was packed, no seats so after waiting and finding our own table and struggling to find a member of staff to clear away the previous occupants mess. We ventured to the buffet. again unappealing and cold food. Even the pastries were stale and totally inedible.

We did not even try the Onsen as from our experiences outside any appeal it had was lost.

The resort had its own light display for the holiday. It looked nice from afar, but the snow was packed to ice and it was so slippery as to be more a danger than an attraction, so we contented ourselves with a couple of photos from afar.

We did find a refuge in town and had a nice meal outside and did enjoy the lights in town.

Room Tip: Avoid this place like the plague

We stayed at this hotel 3 years prior and loved it. That was a summer visit and perhaps if we made another summer visit we'd stay here again. But not in winter.
We have a 14 year old son. And it was for him that we returned here. There are great views of the lake and a nice atmosphere around the hotel area however the main attraction was the Indoor swimming area. And although the wave pool is nice and the water slides were great when he was 11, the absolute winner of the swimming area was the Surf Machine. There had been a fantastic attraction where you ride a body board down a small slope into oncoming rushing water where the challenge is to control your board enough so that you can eventually stand up and 'surf' the onrushing water. If you didn't you were quickly pushed up and over the back into the pool behind.
Well, from what we were told, due to a tragic accident and the death of a child who was likely too young to be playing there, they had closed the attraction down and taken it away instead of simply putting an age restriction upon it.
With this feature being our primary reason for returning to the hotel and the fact that it is no longer there, we are unlikely to return again.
Reasons: The pools, nice as they may be are blase' for a soon to be 15 year old.
The rooms, Tatami style are comfortable but small.
The dining area, for us, is uncomfortable and the hours inconvenient. It is an absolutely huge dining hall, fit for 1,000+ patrons from the looks of it, and at buffet time well... it is not my idea of a pleasant meal.
Food quality and choices, not fantastic either if you are not a fan of seafood like my son & myself, So, while breakfast and dinner are included in the price of the room, I prefer to pay extra for a meal outside the hotel.
Parking, not convenient, down the street and across.
The Onsen is nice. Seems the management favors its male guests. There being two onsens as usual one for each sex, one upstairs and one down. The upstairs one being not nearly as nice as the lower one seems to be almost reserved for male guests. Most onsens seem to rotate onsens male/female/male daily however here it seems the men get the better one for several days, switch for one, then switch back. Hardly fair to the female clientele.
Lastly, location. Again fine for a summer trip it's fine but if you want to ski you are 3o minutes drive from Rusutsu, an hour from Niseko and there are no shuttles to/from the airport.

If we go to Toyako again in summer we may stay again, but more likely we'll check out the competition first for something cozier. For winter, we'll just stay at the mountain next trip.

Room Tip: Tatami rooms are comfy enough. But if you are sore from a day of skiing it can be hard to get up fro...
