We drove all the way from Osaka, took us 2 hours to reach Mt Yoshino. We were accompanied by our tour guide , who took us around up to the best place to see the cherry blossoms. Mt Yoshino is a world heritage. Most of the tourists are locals, mostly seniors. It was fantastic to watch and observed the beauty of the cherry blossoms. they were pink..and some of them had a beautiful scent. Its quite a walk uphill, good walking shoes advisable, no need to panic for food and water as food stalls is everywhere. The best cherry blossoms so far that I have seen in Japan.

Because it's our first time coming here (during the cherry blossom season), after taking the bus (that ONLY runs during this season) to the middle of the mountain, you will be confused of where to go next. We just followed everyone to climb the steep staircase up to the street of Mt. Yoshino and then walking down (also same direction with everybody else).

We couldn't find the view we are looking for because we have gone the wrong way. You have to go higher. But after an hour of walking downwards, we got SOME view (which is not perfect), but it's still amazing to behold. And the trouble of getting here is worth it. You will need at least half a day covering half the place, if you intend on seeing the entire mountain, I suggest you start your day early.

Oh, when you see the stall selling fried soy cakes or fried soy milk (very concentrated soy milk) whichever you want to translate, it looks like fried tofu but they use concentrated soy milk instead, TRY IT, try EVERYTHING they offer (liquid form, fried etc.) they are SO GOOD.

Just beautiful! Clusters of puffy pink cherry blossoms dotting the mountains.

It's a nice walk up the hill for those who are fit and up to it. We saw many elderly locals doing the climb as well. Along the way, one would be kept occupied with beautiful sakuras, lovely green scenery and shops hawking a variety of wares.

Loads of food places for pit stops. Try to head for those around the middle tier -- some restaurants have beautiful look-out over the valley of pink sakuras. This is also a good opportunity to check out the local delights of the season . Enjoy!

NB : It does take some time to get to Yoshino. We based ourselves in Nara but still took approximately 1.5 hrs one way. It is do-able as a day trip, just head out earlier in the day.

Sure you have seen cherry blossom everywhere but have you seen it looking like clusters of pink sweet cotton candy "flowing" from the mountain? It's just so amazing to be here but you need to get here early. I only left Osaka at 10ish and to be honest, traveling time back and forth took like 6 hours (inclusive of getting up on Mt Yoshino and managing the crowd) - also because I had to stay on the JR line as much as possible to make full use of my JR pass.

So yes, it was tiring and I only managed to see a little but it was well worth it. Don't see too many foreign tourists like other places, mostly locals. Which is a good thing too.

We came to Yoshino Yama April 9th, when the cherry blossom already started to disappear in the cities. Yoshino is easy to get to by train, just make sure your on the right line coming from Osaka (kintetsu minami Osaka line) an its the last stop on the train to Yoshino, takes about 1:30-2 hours.
Bring food from the city if you want to go cheaper but snacks around the trails are not so expansive and very nice to try.
To get up from the station to the main area of the mountain can be done by bus, rope-way or to save money just hike up, took us about 20 minutes of easy walk.
To see most of the mountain come early and consider walking a lot.
The higest up we went more and more trees showed full blossom. So even if you have just missed the full blossom in the cities it's worth coming up Yoshino mt and you will still see a lot of trees blooming, and alot of locals still heading up and hiking around.
