I pick this hotel because of its location. Although the hotel is a little bit old , but I had a nice room with a beautifull view to the bay with Kumano mountains as a backdrop. There is also a view point from that can be access from the hotel roof. The food is delicious and the onsens have a view to the ocean. Dinner is served in private dining room which have a beautiful night view to the bay , breakfast is served in a large banquet room with a lot of choice of food.

Room Tip: try to get corner room with view to the bay

Spent just the one night at this hotel/ryokan. The hotel has 141 rooms and is located on a small island in the commercial harbour, about a three minute ferry ride. The hotel is designed to wrap around the point of the island, which is fine in theory but means you have to walk a marathon down long hallways to get from your room to the dining hall. A very odd setup. Parts of the hotel were very tired and overdue for upgrades. Service was ok and the food was ok but not as good as we had experienced in any of the other hotels on this trip. Fishing rods and bait can be hired and you can literally fish from the front of the hotel. There may be some small attraction here for those that have never been near the sea before. We couldn't wait to leave.

Room Tip: Try elsewhere first.

Nakanoshima Hotel is built on a small island with a stunning view on the top of their observation area. Clean room and great dinner served. We also enjoyed very much in the onsens just next to the sea. The front staff can speaks good English.

This hotel is, as its name says, inside a small island.

In spite of the fact that the big building is agresive in such a place, being inside is very pleasant, surrounded by the sea.

After our trip to Nachi Taisha (unforgettable place) we reached the Nakanoshima in a shuttle boat and had a beautiful bath in the onsen, just by the sea.

We also had a fantastic dinner in a intimate dinning room (we were 15 people) served by two friendly maids allways trying to make things easy even without speaking english.

The view from the whole hotel was stunning and we even did a walk around the island in the morning.

Indeed, a place to remember.

We went to the hotel for the view and we got what we wanted. The onsen is directly facing the pacific ocean.

The hotel ground is huge as well as the rooms. The front staff didn't speak much english, only the bellboy could, so knowing a few sentences in japanese can be useful.

On the other side the hotel is getting old, although it is well maintained and clean. The town of Kii-katsuura is quite small and everything looks shabby and rusty... the golden age of Kii-katsuura seems to have faded.

We stayed at the Hotel Nakanshima during a 2 1/2 week vacation in Japan for 2 nights.

To me, it was one of the highlights of the trip.

The location is quite amazing - on a small island that is reached by a shuttle boat that leaves frequently from the Kii-Katsuura dock.

The hotel consists of a few buildings that are all connected by tunnels. It features a lot of activities, a great store with local specialties, a game room, a path to the top of the island with a fabulous footbath along the way, and the greatest hotspings that overlook the ocean.

The food was fabulous, and the service that we recieved was outstanding.

We were the only "Western" guests in the hotel. We were made to feel very welcome by the hotel staff and the other guests.

Our room was a typical Japanese syled room with an amazing view of the bay, fish farms, and the local hillsides.

Kii-Katsuura is a small fishing town which is located about 3 hours or so from Osaka. Part of the trainride is quite scenic. In the local area, a short bus ride up the mountain takes your to a beautiful temple complex and the cool great falls of Natchi.

I hope that I can someday return to this great hotel.
