I stayed at Business Inn Umesaki because it is very convenient to Hitachi Zosen company where I am working. The hotel is only 1 km from the JR rail line. For me location is five stars - just 1 km from my work. For the vacationer, it is a nice little pearl in the country. Nagasu is a little community, part of Tamana in Kumomoto prefecture. It is known for farming of goldfish and there is a nice park dedicated to that theme 1/2 km walk from the hotel. Like most parts around here, the hotel sits near rice fields where you hear frogs chirping in summer. It is very near the Nagasu Ferry, which can take you across the Ariake Bay to visit Mt. Unzen and Shimabara castle.
The hotel is operated by a lady with impeccable tastes and standards, Rie Umesaki. The hotel lobby is small but beautiful with various kinds of polished stone (I wish I could remember the names). Rie-san is very personable and speaks good English. Her Japanese breakfast tray is out of this world. Don't let the price fool you. Although very affordable, it is also five stars in my book. Outside the lobby is a beautiful garden where I enjoy taking my morning coffee in the warm weather.
