“We were only there for the night.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 May 2014

When we got to the gate everything was dark. We thought oh no we have been ripped off so we drove around thinking there must be another entrance. We couldn't find one. When we went back to the gate within a minute or two a gentleman opened the gate for us. We drove in and parked. The man didn't ask us for reservations or anything as they knew we were coming. He took us directly to our room which was very nice. It was 11:30 at night so we went right to bed. When we woke up the next morning and looked out the window, we were in paradise. We had a huge picture window looking out on trees and foliage. The bathroom had a slanted window above the sink with trees etc. It was so nice. It is not a fancy like one person said "cookie cutter" establishment. It is very unique and has an amazing ambiance. I wish we could have stayed but we had breakfast an had to get on the road. We would love to go back.

Room Tip: We had a very end room up a walkway. It was HUGE! and very quiet.

Pros: The courtyard garden is peaceful and the hotel itself is like a work of art. The staff is so kind, the food is delicious and authentic Costa Rican. Our room was huge and the bed was super comfy. The bathrooms have incredible amounts of natural light and beautifully tiled counters. Ample parking for those with cars.

Cons: The wifi was down while we were there (for 24 hours), making it difficult for us to check into our flight home. The rooms aren't very soundproof and we could hear our neighbors walking around on the creaky hardwood floors. The hotel is pretty far from downtown San Jose (it’s about a 20min drive with multiple tolls). The "spa" is an old hot tub that looks like it has been broken for about a year.

Other than that, it’s a charming hotel with unique flare.

My husband and stayed for 1 night after flying in to San Jose for our first time to Costa Rica. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the rooms were very big. The grounds were beautiful and the artwork was unique and unusual. Our package included breakfast the next morning which consisted of fresh fruit, juice, coffee, eggs, rice and beans. It was the perfect start to our vacation. The only problem which we did not personally have, was that the couple we were traveling with had issues with their AC in their room. Our bathroom was very big but no AC and the door was left closed so when we arrived the bathroom was hot. Also the fan did not work unless the fan light was left on. Overall it was a wonderful experience and much better than staying at a cookie cutter hotel! Travel is about experiencing new things right?

The service in this hotel was impeccable, our room comfortable and spacious. The decor was amazing and gives the hotel a special character and charm. The furniture individual and quirky, always something interesting to look at around the next corner. The garden was good to relax in on our last evening, knowing that we only had a short drive the next day.
Evening meal : food was reasonable, but I ate the best passion fruit creme brûlée ever!

Beautiful hotel! Art and colors everywhere which made all of our pictures so beautiful. The room is very big and so unique. Two double beds even though we would have preferred a king. Bathroom is big and gorgeous. Ate dinner at the restaurant and the food was wonderful. Great service and English speaking, which is helpful. We took a taxi to a nearby restaurant for lunch which was very inexpensive ride for great food. Definitely worth it. I would agree that it is not the best location but we are only staying for one night so we wanted to just stay here and enjoy the hotel anyway.

This hotel is really interesting - lots of art work and meandering paths through a beautiful garden. Our room was huge and very comfortable. The shower was amazing - almost a room! We had lunch and dinner at the hotel, and the food was outstanding. The location is not so great - nothing within walking distance.

We stayed here the first night in Costa Rica before we were heading to Sarapiqui. The hotel is colourful and ceatively decorated, and the staff are friendly and helped us to arrange transport to Sarapiqui the next day. We knew the hotel was a bit isolated, so we had decided to have lunch and dinner at the hotel restaurant. When we arrived at the hotel, we where told that dinner was until 22:00. The lunch was ok and they have a nice garden, although the traffic noise was noticeable. When arriving at the restaurant at 20:00, we were told that the restaurant would close at 21:00 that day.
And when we asked for a bottle of red wine, the waiter told us that unfortunately they were sold out. But after a while he came back happy and told us that he fortunately had found a bottle of red wine in the kitchen. Our room had two ceiling fans and both where attached to the light. We asked the reception how to run the ceiling fans without the light at nightime, but she could not tell how to do it. So we had to remove four light bulbs in one of the ceiling vans to be able to sleep with van on!
