We, a couple from Germany, stayed one night in March 2013 in Posada Nena. Internet page read good, many good ratings on tripadvisor, and the owner, Volker, was very friendly in email conversion. We had one of the two superior rooms which are “garden” facing. But our stay was disappointing. The area of the “Posada” is small. The property is like a towel, like the property of a row house. The small part faces the road with high iron bars. It looks like a prison from outside. We talked to Volker about the massive iron bars and he said that the area was very save and that the Posada had only very small security equipment. It seems that he does not recognise any more all the iron bars, barbed wire, cameras, security personnel etc. on all the houses in San José. We had a look in one of the standard rooms which were quite small. Our superior room was a little bit larger, but also small. Room was clean. Bathroom was also clean, new and spacious. The room has no windows on 3 sides, only a sliding glass door as entrance. The air condition was very loud, for us impossible to sleep when switched on. There are other ratings here on tripadvisor telling about the very noisy air conditions and Volker responded that the air condition is not noisy. Do not believe him, the air condition is definitely loud! Since there was only a sliding glass door, it was not possible to tilt a window. It is only possible to open the glass door so that everybody can come into the room during the night. Yes, there is a security guard during the night, but the feeling with sleeping next to an open slide door is still not nice. By the way: Why is there a security guard required although the area it “very safe”? The “garden” is not a real garden. It is a very small piece of grass with a few toys for children. From the term “Posada with garden” someone can expect something bigger. Nearly the whole property has buildings on it, the building with the rooms and bar at the street facing side and the building with the two superior rooms at the end of the property with the small “garden” in-between. There are high walls to the neighbor properties, which gives also the feeling of the prison. We received good tips from Volker for restaurants to have dinner. Since we had to leave early in the morning to the airport (6:30am), we asked for a packed breakfast, for example a simple sandwich and a boiled egg. Volker: “Packed breakfast is not possible. Boiled egg is also not possible“. “Why not?“ “You are in Costa Rica here“. Sounds not so polite as in the email conversion during booking. Next morning there was a very friendly woman which prepared the packed breakfast for us without any problem. We asked Volker for a description of the way to the airport, especially to the car rental station with is nearby the airport. He painted roughly a mess of lines on a piece of paper “… and you have to drive somehow through Belem” , not very willing to give a good description. However, we found the way on our own and it was easy since there are signs with “airport” and the way through Belem to the car rental was also easy. Since there are many guests in Posada Nena who drive to the airport (since it is near to it), it would be useful if the Posada would have a ready made descriptoin of the way to the airport. We would not stay again in “Posada” Nena.
