“Warm and comfy cottage with good walks from the door”
Reviewed 12 May 2017 for a stay in May 2017

Silhouette Cottage is very pretty with a lovely garden and is well equipped. We enjoyed several forest walks. Perfect for a quiet break with Monmouth nearby for a great range of independent shops.

Don't let the proximity of Silhouette Cottage to the main road put you off, because it is tucked away down its own drive, and we found it really quiet. The cottage is really lovely, so warm , clean, well equipped and cozy. We had everything there we needed and more. We breakfasted in the centrality heated conservatory, and chilled out by the woodburner in the evenings. It was the perfect cottage for our break, with a brilliant pub just yards away too. We were greeted warmly by Michelle the owner on arrival, which I appreciated . I would love to go back in the summer months , and enjoy the lovely garden aswell. Highly recommended....and I'm fussy !!

“Most relaxing stay”

What a lovely cottage. The beds are comfy, the main bedroom is large, the kitchen is well stocked, the bathroom is modern, the conservatory is pretty, but best of all is the comfortable lounge with its GORGEOUS wood burner. Its fair to say, we had a very relaxing time in a clean and comfortable cottage.
There are some lovely walks and scenery right on the cottages door step. I would equally recommend Sunday lunch in the pub two doors down.

“Excellent location and facilities overall good value for money.”
Reviewed 5 December 2016 for a stay in November 2016

We had a very comfortable stay. The cottage was excelent and was very warm during the cold weather we had while there, the log burning stove was a big plus. All information was provided in a useful book. Cotttage was Dog frendly, our Jack russel Meg enjoyed her stay. The location is excelent for walking, we walked to Symonds Yat Rock, Staunton common, Bracelends campsite, Biblins brige on the river Wye, the suck stone and buck stone. Coleford is very near for essential shopping etc.

“Lovely cottage in a great location”
Reviewed 22 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

We really loved Silhouette Cottage - it's very well equipped (we are keen cooks and were very pleased to see it has two fridges!) and immaculately decorated. We particularly enjoyed sitting / eating in the conservatory.
Good sized garden for the kids to play in (there is no gate to the road, so you might want to be careful with very small children).
One of the bedrooms is enormous and the other is pretty small. We ended up having to give the master bedroom to our children as they struggled to share the small double bed in the smaller room (they kept falling out) but that wasn't the end of the world.
The wifi needs a special mention - it was excellent and easily supported multiple devices whilst we also streamed music and films.
Michelle was extremely helpful during our stay and we really feel she added a lovely personal touch.
The location of the cottage is superb - it's very quiet and peaceful in spite of the proximity to a major A road. Beware of the tricky / hidden access driveway. It's a really tight turn off the A4136. We missed it twice when we first arrived, in spite of Michelle's instructions.

During our stay we visited Puzzlewood, Clearwell Caves, Symonds Yat and we hired canoes on the Wye (recommend "Canoe the Wye" as a company) and we rented bikes and did the family cycle trail (recommend "Forest of Dean Cycle Hire"). We also went swimming at Whitemead Leisure Park. All of these are highly recommended and are only 20 mins or less from the cottage.
We also did the local "Staunton Heritage Walk" which was fab. And the last word goes to the White Horse Inn which is really lovely - great food and atmosphere and only 30 seconds walk from the cottage!

All in all, we would highly recommend Silhouette Cottage for a stay in the Forest of Dean.
It would be best suited to a couple or two couples or a family with one child. The steep stairs, double bed in the second bedroom and the open garden might make it tricky for people with two small kids
Not recommended for older / less able people because of the steep stairs.
